In Pro Per?????

Hi all!
I recently took a deposition in which the plaintiff decided to represent herself. This depo was the depo of her son and she was not present. On my appearance page, how do I list her?

FOR THE PLAINTIFF:

JANE DOE
HER PERSONAL ADDRESS HERE

????? Not quite sure how to do it, especially because she wasn't there. Would I put the deponent on the appearance page??

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Erin,

If she wasn't in the room when her son's depo was taken, I would not put her on the appearance page of that depo.

As far as her depo, I would put Sandy Smith, Pro Se.

I would put her on the appearance page and then put (not present).

In my experience, you do need to list the attorney (or in pro per) on the appearance page even when they're not present and put (No appearance.) under the telephone number or e-mail address.

I beg to differ with those of you who would put her on the appearance page even though she wasn't in the room at the time of the depo. To me, the appearance page is to list people present, whether via telephone, videoconference, etc., not to list representation, whether pro se or otherwise.

Tricia, I agree with you.

What I have come to learn in this industry, though, is that there sometimes is no right or wrong when it comes to punctuation, spellings of certain words, and transcript format/styles.

Today, I am usually my own boss, and I can pick and choose which format/style I want for my transcripts.

That said, if I was doing a job for another company, I would do it EXACTLY the way they want, even if I thought it was wrong. And believe you me, this has happened to me more than once when transcribing for others. LOL

The main thing is to just be consistent within the transcript itself, but when in Rome and Rome is paying your invoice, then it might be a good idea to do as the Romans do, even if you think it looks goofy!

Thanks for the feedback. I enjoyed your Rome paying the invoice remark. LOL You're right; they are the ones paying the invoice and being the bank, they can be as ****'g goofy as they like.

Hi. I would go ahead and list her and indicate (not present). That's how I would do it in court. I think that makes it perfectly clear that you didn't just neglect to note their appearance, or in this case nonappearance.
