Found a computer that has good audio for a great price

Hey, everyone,

I just bought a new computer that has really good audio.  It is a Samsung Model Code:  NP300V5A-AOKUS.  Here is a link to the model I bought.

I got it at Microcenter.  It was only $529.  It has 3 USB ports.  It has a separate jack for a microphone and a separate jack for headphones.  It is very lightweight.

I have tested the audio at home.  Another reporter turned me on to it.  He had gone through several computers trying to find one that worked.

I was going to use this as my backup computer but I may use it as my main computer.  I'm trying it out on a depo tomorrow.

Microcenter has 12 months financing with no interest.

Just thought I would pass it along.

Thanks.  I wish I needed a new computer.  I already have two with lousy sound but I use an Andrea sound card.   But I will keep in this mind.

Thanks, Janiece.  Always good to know where to turn for a great computer.  I'll keep this in mind, too.  Love the great price.

I wish I had seen (known about) this before I plunked down $1,000 in a panic.

Well, Chris, I only replace when I have to.  I'm slow right now so it is a good time to get it set up.

My computer I am replacing is a Toshiba Satellite.  I think I bought it in '02.  It has XP.  It did not have audio good enough to take to jobs.  I used it to edit only.

My last computer that I took to jobs lasted over 5 years.  I generally have a computer dedicated to just going to jobs.  It is hardly ever on the internet.  I back the jobs off and edit on the edit computer.

I prefer for my edit computer to have good recording ability in case the computer dedicated to jobs goes down.  That way I'm not off work trying to find a computer, no downtime.

You can click on the link and view the laptop.  I'm using the same microphone as you are.

I also had a Tecra and it was a great machine, great audio.  I have been told that Toshibas are not producing good audio and that is why I did not purchase another one.

The Samsung I bought has a really nice keyboard, separate keys for numbers, all that good stuff.  I like the touch on the keyboard.

It is on sale and it was originally priced at around $750.  I don't think it's cheaply made.  I have had experience with a cheap computer before.  I feel confident about it.

I am slow right now so I had time to get it up and running.  I'd rather bite the bullet when I have the time as opposed to when I'm getting out tons of pages.

Oh, moving away from the serial port is not a big deal.  I had to do that too.  You just have to get a cable to connect to the USB port and then you connect your serial cable to that USB cable.

I see the same computer on Amazon.com for $464.  That's cool.  I just bought it for a backup since I heard Windows 8 that's coming out is not compatible and has some problems.

Kelli,

Let me know what you think.  I am loving mine.  So far I am using it at home to edit.  I am learning Windows 7 and making sure it is working fine before I take it out on a job.  I have tested the audio and it sounded great.

I hope you like it.  I thought I got a great price but you did even better.  Good for you.

Janiece

I love Amazon.  I buy everything there.  They have amazing prices.  Thanks for posting about your laptop.  That's very helpful.  My last three computers have been Toshiba.  Never used a Samsung, but on your recommendation, I thought I'd better get it.  Looks pretty light, which is great too.  I just hate setting them up; it's such a pain.  This way, I can do it on my off time and not be in a hurry.  Thanks again.

Kelli,

FYI, I am using a high-gain microphone in the microphone jack.  My friend is using a USB microphone.  Both of us have really good audio.

Yeah, I was going to use the USB microphone that I already have and am used to using.  Haven't gotten around to opening the box yet.  Was going to try to this afternoon.

I was going to set it up slowly and take my time since I don't need it now anyway.  I just want it ready when I do, in fact, realize I need it.  Nothing worse than having to set up a computer at the last minute in a panic.

Kelli,

I agree.  July was so slow for me.  That's why when I found out about this computer I went ahead and bought it.  I needed a new at-home computer anyway but I wanted one that had good audio that I could take to jobs in case my computer I take to depos went to that great computer graveyard in the sky, LOL.

Well, I took it out of the box and am setting up Windows right now.  First thing I notice is how incredibly quiet it is.  My Toshiba I take to jobs has a super loud fan.  I can't hear this computer at all.  I love that
