hello all. I have had a horrible day. Hard drive crashed and burned. Anyways... I bought a new computer today, and I have Eclipse on there just fine (except it's an old version, and I don't have a contract so I can't get an update:( ) but I am trying to get my elan mira A3 to work on here, but I don't have a disc for it. I was trying to download the drives off the site, but I am obviously not smart enought to figure it out. SO anyone who is techy with this and can help me, it is GREATLY appreciated. Give the events that happened today, I am surprised I have not been admitted yet..

THANK YOU!

Erica, go to your User settings in Eclipse, then the Input tab. For your writer, choose the Stentura 8000 (yes, this will work with the Mira); then at "Realtime from" mine is set at Com Port. I have Windows XP's latest version. If you have Vista I am not sure what the setting would be for "Realtime From." But I hope this helps.
Unfortunately, this isn't working for me. I tried to use Com Port for it and USB, but I do have Vista. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I really appreciate your help though!
Erica,

It was a Toshiba Satellite. It was paritaly my fault. The cover had just fallen off (even though the boy at Best Buy suggested that wouldn't happen) and had exposed the hard drive. I did not have a screw driver small enough to put it back on, so .... I didn't. lmao. To be completely honest (and risk looking like a dumb@$$) I thought it was the battery. I guess I assumed that the hard drive would be something smaller integrated into the computer where it couldn't just be exposed by a cover.

BUT... now I just bought my first mini, an HP 12.1, 4GB with an AMD neo processor (supposedly the fastest one out there for the thin notebooks). I also bought a 320GB hard drive to backup all my work as soon as the job is over. And I will carry it EVERYWHERE. lol. And bought every single thing you would need to keep a computer safe. lol. Then, when I get my precious LS, I will be able to carry everything in a beautiful tote bag. YAY!

I have friends that own a computer store, and have a program to recover stuff from the hard drive. They said they're 99% successful, so I have to pray that I'm not that 1%.
THEY GOT MY STUFF OFF. OH YEAH OH YEAH. LOL:)

a VERY good lesson learned. External harddrives are my new best friend!
That is a great way of making sure you have everything! I burn them to CDs for my work and then I will put them on this portable HD. I paid more money to get the hard drive that say that it has automatic encrypted backup, so even if it does crash, there will still be backup of the items in there. It's made by Seagate. At least, that's what I read the info at the store to say and mean. I might have to check out their website to see how that really works. This is all new to me. And, like you, I am not comfortable with internet backup. I like something tangible!

Thanks for being there with me through this bumpy ride:)
Hey,

You should post their name in case other reporters have hard drives that crash.
No, I meant she should post the names of the people who recovered her information in case other reporters have hard drives that crash and need to have their information recovered somehow.
Absolutely!!! They are wicked awesome, and got everything off in one day and are overnighting it back to me on my portable harddrive. And they are putting a new harddrive into my old computer so I can give it to my little brother. I never want to see it again. lol

Glad it all worked out! Just saw this post. I have a place in Rochester I use....TAB is their name. They are awesome and have helped our CRs several times. Hard way to learn about backing up, but it is SO important! I have 3 externals....two at home I backup to and one at MILs that I update weekly. ecost.com has cheap externals. I just rotated out my photography pics too. They are at MILs also.
