New Diamante Retrofitting - AWESOME!

Kerry, I've got 2 Diamantes.  I had one retrofitted.  I CAN'T WAIT TO SEND THE OTHER ONE IN!!!  It's fantastic.  And believe it or not, there is LESS stacking and LESS splitting.  It's absolutely, positively amazing and I can't WAIT to sent my other writer in for a retrofit!

This is off topic from this thread, but have you hooked that digital recorder to your computer?

Also, did you see my post?  I got a computer that produces great audio for 529 bucks.  I think I remember you were getting ready to replace yours but I could be wrong about that.

Janiece, I have NOT had time to hook the digital recorder to the computer ... I just put it somewhere in the room and listen to it later in spots to see how it's doing.  But just listening to it is quite awesome and 1,000 better than my Sony Vaio recording.  What I have on the Sony will do to check what I need to check from time to time, but thanks for prodding me to do that.  I should do it tomorrow - today, I've got a hearing that's fairly large and not one big of preparation.  In fact, I don't even have a caption as it's top secret.  I hate days like this!

I'll hook that up tomorrow and report back for SURE.

And yes, I'll be in the market for a new computer soon, as it's been 18-24 months since I bought new.  Not to say anything about lower priced computers, but I always like to get full power, much RAM and other stuff in the guts of the machine, plenty of space, etc., and usually pay about $2,000 for a new main computer.  Really can't beat this Vaio for size, though - I love it! So I might just get another Vaio. We'll see.  Just like with clothes and shoes, I do NOT buy sight unseen ... I must get hands-on with any PC I'm going to use myself.  One little thing on the keyboard that bothers me on a trial run most assuredly will bother me forever, so I always "try on"!

I read on another message board that if you order a new Diamante, it now comes with the retrofit, and you wouldn't need to send it in to get the retrofit. Anyone know if that is true or not?

I know that because a SG salesperson came and demo'd one here and said they were coming out with the shallower stroke in a few months.  If the writer was purchased then, they would charge to retrofit it later.  If that reporter waited (I was just listening in on the demo), there would not be a charge.  That was a year ago, but the new retrofits were supposed to come out by the first of this year.  That is what the salesperson said at the time.

It feels awesome!!!  I haven't hooked it up and written on it yet, though.

Well, I just bought a new Diamante.  It has a pretty short stroke.  I still have stacking/splitting problems, though.

Hi, Angie.  I guess literally, "retrofit" means taking a piece of equipment and changing a component or adding something that it did not originally have.  The Diamante was originally shipped with a certain stroke depth, which in itself was awesome.  However, Stenograph started to offer to retrofit existing Diamantes with a stroke depth offering that is, I'll guess, half as short as the original Diamante.  Those of us who've had the original Diamante can send our machines in now to be retrofitted, or changed, to the new stroke depth.  Interesting that Kelli has stacking/splitting issues, because with the retrofit, or shorter stroke, I have next to no stacking/splitting problems, most definitely less than with the original Diamante.  One would think that making the stroke depth shorter would increase such problems, but in my case, they have lessened it.
