Hey, everyone,

I just got my first Windows 7 computer a couple days ago.  How do you hook up the external monitor?  I have it hooked up to my laptop and the external monitor is working fine but if I close the laptop, the laptop turns off.

Thanks,

Janiece

Janiece, you have to go into the power management in the Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options. On the left-hand side, you will see "Choose what closing the lid does."  You need to change the plugged-in and battery power options. Set "When I close the lid" to "do nothing."

Thank you, Quyen,

I just tried what you suggested and it worked.

I love editing on a full-size screen.

Welcome. :)

I'm thinking about getting a desktop again with a 24 - 30 in. monitor so I can just take this little tank on jobs. But I just dropped $1,100 on a new laptop, Will have to decide on one or the other. Definitely not getting/keeping both.
