Comment by Janiece on May 9, 2013 at 14:00 Hi, Janet,
I just read your idea on speaker defines, I like it.
Has anyone ever reported a Federal Mine Hearing? It sounded hard. I'm curious in case it is offered to me again.
Comment by Mary Jo Saul on May 6, 2013 at 22:55 I always thought the steno machines simply were not designed to identify a multitude of speakers. If I have a panel I go from one side to the other and start with speaker1, speaker2, speaker3, speaker4, then speaker5 (both top bars), then speaker 6 (both bottom bars). After that, it gets confusing and I need some visual cues to keep track of who it is, so I write glasses, fat fat, tie tie. Something like that. I liked the suggestion of the commas with the number bar combination.
Comment by Janet on April 26, 2013 at 6:46 Janiece, when I took a captioning course, they recommended using the question bank with the initial of the speaker. It actually makes more sense, because you stay in the Q/A rhythm. I find the double stroking of initials or the first syllable of their name takes too much time when you're in a fast-paced proceeding.
STKPWHR-P for MR. PAUL
Comment by Janiece on April 26, 2013 at 5:23 Thanks, Sam. I like your ideas of the number bar with a number.
Comment by Naola "Sam" Vaughn on April 26, 2013 at 5:17 And, of course, I make a seating chart if necessary. I often also use first syllable of last name, such as BEN/BEN for Benjamin, FORD/FORD for Ford, etc.
Comment by Naola "Sam" Vaughn on April 26, 2013 at 5:15 For speaker ID's I use these (in order of how they're written):
STPHAO - Plaintiff's counsel
SKWRAO - Defense counsel
EUFPLT - Court or arbitrator or main arbitrator
EURBGS - add'l defense
STPHAOFPLT - (add'l plf's counsel or other)
SKWRAOFPLT - add'l def counsel or other)
STPHEUFPLT - (add'l plf's counsel or other)
SKWREUFPLT (add'l defense or other)
STPHAORBGS (add'l plf or other)
SKWRAORBGS (add'l dfd or other)

Comment by Janiece on April 25, 2013 at 22:03 Hi, Debbie,
Sure. Why not?
Comment by Debbie on April 25, 2013 at 22:02 I have used T3 for a few years now and pay 24.99 a month for it. Can we not say on here if we were satisfied or not with service?
Comment by Janiece on April 25, 2013 at 21:43 Janet,
Good ideas for extra speaker defines. :-)
Comment by Janet on April 25, 2013 at 17:32 I use the symbol for THE COURT for the chairman, then EUFRPBLGTS and STKPWHRAO for the other panel members.
