I have a command while writing in realtime to make time. That one works. I know I have a command for make date. I'm dumbfounded as to where to look for these commands. They're not in my realtime commands. I haven't worked in four years and I was on this software for only 1 1/2 years. Any help please? I'm not working yet so I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for tech support. Thanks!
Hi, Glen, I forget how to sync up the transcript (while editing and gets off track for some reason) with the steno notes to match them back up again.
Also, I used to be able to just plug in the audio device, but now for some reason, I have to go into advanced audio and tell it to use the USB device every time. Any reasons why this is happening?
Also -- sorry, I know I'm being a PITA, but how do I transfer my quick types over? Is it possible? I'm not certain on export/import setting doing that. I got everything transferred over to the other computer but did it via explorer. Thanks!
Denise, while looking around in digitalCAT's Transcript Editor, I found Tools --> Export/Import Settings! This will export *everything* from your old settings!
Wow, some people, huh?
Good that you've found someone to sit out with; don't forget to ready the article on internship! on Cheap and Sleazy!
Not sure what's going on with the Commands file; that really should have worked!
Thanks, Glen, you whiz! I'll try it when I get back from the gym. I got everything up and running, just need to transfer all those other files. I really have lost about 30 WPM on my speed. Now I'm worried. Oh, this goof ball wanted me to drive for free to a city that's 190 miles RT. So that put all my hopes of working again on the back burner because I don't work for free!
Then I get a call from a lady who has a good reputation and so I'm going to sit out with her once I'm confident that I'm ready to work again because she said she could use me locally and wouldn't expect me to drive for free. I guess that guy giving out free travel at reporters' expenses has a bad reputation.
Thanks again, Glen! You're awesome!
P.S. Right before I checked the site here, I put my flashdrive in and then dragged the command editor file over to transcript editor and it didn't work. I'm afraid to delete anything.
Hi, Denise.
I've never done it, but I guess I would copy the entire digitalCAT folder to the flash drive, install digitalCAT on the new computer, locate the digitalCAT folder on that computer, right-click it and delete it, then locate the digitalCAT folder on your hard drive and drag it into place.
Yes, that's the long way around, but if you do it this way and it doesn't like your "new" digitalCAT folder, you can always put the old one back and drag your Dictionaries folder, the Transcript folder, your Commands file, etc. over.
One of those should do the trick, and hopefully it will be the first one!
So. What's the story with the 190 mile drive ...?
of course, everything is on a flashdrive.
Hi, stupid question here. I am transferring my digital cat files onto another computer. How do I transfer everything, includes, cover pages, etc.?
I got the dictionary transferred, but that's it. I'm going back to work supposedly for the second time in a year. This time I got a call from someone who isn't going to expect me to drive 190 miles round trip for FREE!
Thanks, everyone!
Hi, Curtis.
What that error messages is telling you is that the change you want to make already exists in the dictionary.
The best way to avoid this is to open the dictionary with the Dictionary Maintenance program (Start --> Programs --> DigitalCAT --> Dictionary Maintenance) and, with the desired dictionary open, type an S.
That will bring up the steno search window. Type the steno of the outline you're planning on entering into the dictionary and if anything comes up, that means it's in use.
Hope that makes sense ....
Hey, quick question, or at least I'm hoping this wil be quick: I wanted to differentiate in my dictionary between gait and gate. There are entries for these words but I wanted to change them. When I tried to do so, I received the following error message:
"The changes you made to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again."
I'm not yet savvy with this software, I'm not sure that I know what that means, but I believe it's saying that changing gate will somehow affect other words with gate in it, like investigate, instigate, etc. Am I at least in the ballpark with my assumption? Any help getting around this error message would be appreciated.
