DO NEW REPORTERS USE SCOPIST

Do new reporters use scopists? I am most concerned over this part of the job, specially in the beginning when untranslates are present.

Hi Lisa, Yeah. I'm still looking for the RPR cd's so I can take the test in April. I've already passed it once, but I let it lapse. Stupid but now I need it to work in the other states. Anything would be great. leesa@durrantcourtreporters.com or (818) 599-7721. Are you planning on working in Rhode Island?

Sorry it took me so long to write you back. But interning is a good way to learn. But I think maybe changing your mind frame will work. Your first year might be your best year. The old owner of my firm give me some advice and said as long as you're on time and you don't lose your notes everything else is workable, which I find to be true. But just like court reporting school you'll cry, have self-doubt, think you're the best reporter ever and then not again. It is still a rollercoaster of emotions doing this job, but it will be fine.
My best advice would be to get a good audio back-up, be on time, make sure when there is a name that you never heard before to put something in your notes to remind you to ask for spellings, and even when you don't know what the hell you're talking about or reading back, sound like you do.
And with Digitalcat the software to me is just OKAY. When I was in school we used CaseCat (and I still have no idea why) but using DigitalCat is very very simple. I think maybe in the future I'll probably get Eclispe cause I do not like CaseCat but then again I don't like spending thousand of dollars on software, so I might just keep it. DigitalCat is very simple and cheaper and gets the job done, which is what counts,
DON'T WORRY YOU WILL BE A GREAT REPORTER
