Eclipse Version 5 Users

This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Wynne, the redaction function isn't new to version 5.  It's been in the software for years.  Press F1 for help in Eclipse and type in "redact" and you can get all the details of how to use it.

If an attorney has a witness put their Social Security number on the record, I'll ask if it should be redacted, and usually the answer is yes.  I've redacted SS numbers even when I've forgotten to ask, and no one's ever complained.

Evidently Version 5 has something called a redaction feature that California reporters use since they have to redact personal info of jurors.  It has something to do with making a PDF and checking a box that says "don't display redactions."

Any California reporters want to explain that to the rest of us?  Curious.

Thanks Laura...I was on Procat for 20 years and macro meant something different with that.  I do the 1-B, 2-B, so I think I am indeed on the same page as everyone else!  :)

Cindy, I'm not sure which post it is by Kelli to see what you're referring to, but the "macro" is more than likely when you write your steno to request a brief for the last one word, two words, three words, etc., to prompt Eclipse to generate an autobrief for you immediately.  The default steno is 1-BZ, 2-BZ, 3-BZ, 4-BZ, 5-BZ, I believe, or at least that's my steno.

Wynne, I just did that and I already have those setting, EXCEPT, I don't have the info bar checked b/c there is no need to waste a quarter of my screen on the left-hand margin when all that info shows up anyway right above the word your cursor is on.  My Q was what does the "macro" part mean?  I wanted to know if there was something extra I could be doing more so than how I already have it set it and it sounds like no, that I've got it just how it needs to be.  Thanks!

Hi, Cindy!

Go to Window (File, Recent, Production....Window)

View Toggles

the Translation Magic window will then pop up

Be sure your info bar is checked

be sure suggest briefs automatically is checked

be sure autobrief (at bottom right) is checked

Click on the SetUp button to the right of autobrief

Be sure there's a number next to Reminders, Requests or Suggestions....what number you put in there is up to you, your preference

Hope this helps.

Hi, Cindy!  Read this thread when you have time.  I think it will help you understand a bit more about one of my favorite things:  Auto-briefs!
