Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad I was able to help. :)
That's fantastic that you've started up with the speed-building CDs! You go, girl!
About the Lightspeed, I unfortunately don't have an answer. I use a Stentura machine (can't remember the model number right off the top of my head right now), but I'm sure you can find many Lightspeed users on this site. I think there's even a Group created just for Lightspeed users. Good luck in finding the info you need!
I'm glad that you have this new info to glean from, so you can make a more educated decision, if you're going to make any decision at all. I guess you're going to have to re-evaluate your goals and figure out the best way to reach those goals.
For me personally, my goal is to finish the court reporting program and get certified ASAP. Thus, my certification is what I'm measuring everything against. If it helps with my goal, I'm doing it! If not, I have to drop it!
Fortunately for me, I don't (yet) have a family I need to provide for, and that's why I'm able to work part-time at my law office. I only have to worry about taking care of myself.
Also, my boyfriend and I have decided to not get married until I'm done with school. Because school -- ESPECIALLY court reporting! -- is a huge undertaking and will need 110% of my focus.
So everything is "on hold" for me until I finish school... and that's why I WANT/NEED to finish ASAP... so I can start my career, start my married life with my boyfriend, etc.
I know I was rambling a bit... sorry! :P But I hope this somehow helps. :)
Thanks for answering my question about transcribing on your steno machine. I really appreciate the info!
The reason I ask is I know of an official court reporter who used to also transcribe on her steno machine while she was still a student. However, she said this slowed down her process more than anything because she got used to backing up the audio whenever she couldn't figure out what was being said, etc. She said the convenience of the foot pedal (to rewind) helped keep her back from progressing with school.
Also, I tried very briefly to transcribe on my steno machine with medical transcription dictation. It was super hard!!! But maybe it's because my dictionary, especially with medical terminology, simply is NOT there yet! :P So it took way longer than it should have. Thus, I just used my QWERTY keyboard (and still do) for my transcription jobs.
That's interesting that you use your steno machine for transcription work. Like you, I'm a court reporting student and a transcriptionist... but I use the regular QWERTY keyboard for my transcription stuff. I just find it's easier and faster when I do it this way.
What was your experience? Did you always just work from your steno machine for your transcription jobs? Or did you switch after thinking you could kill two birds with one stone -- get the transcription job done AND practice on your steno machine AND possibly work on your dictionary. Doesn't it take a much longer time to finish a transcription job when you're on your steno machine? Do you use a foot pedal when you're transcribing?
Sorry... I know... questions overload! :P Very curious about this subject. I would very much appreciate any feedback. Thank you in advance!
Hope you have a great birthday, Lisa! Here's to a happy year! :D
Lisa, you should take a look at the Magnum Steno Group. They are leaving all sorts of tips and briefs and Mark Kislingbury comments a lot. It's good information.

You're a court reporting student, too, correct?
What are your thoughts with the above?
Would love to hear back from you! Thanks! :)
