I am a court reporter and I am going to tell you something very valuable that I wish I had known. I tried to get by cheap by using a Stenograph 8000 as a student and then professionally. When I started doing LiveNotes, I had nothing but problems because my laptop kept freezing up. I thought it was my laptop. Oh, no, it wasn't. I finally bought my elan Mira, and it's worth its weight in gold, seriously. I have never had a problem staying connected to LiveNotes and I can't believe how much better everything translates because it's super easy to change the tension on the keys. I have even noticed that attorneys don't want to hook up to LiveNotes if they see that the court reporter is using an old Stentura. I could have saved myself a lot of heartache if I hadn't tried to get by as cheap as possible. It has made all the difference in the world. I wish someone had told me. It would have saved me from a lot of stress. Everytime you have a problem at a deposition with your laptop freezing up, it knocks down your confidence level. (Don't worry; I'm not a salesperson of elan Miras. I'm just a much happier court reporter now.)
