LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!!!!!

Over the course of my many years reporting, I have had some pretty crazy things happen.  I thought it would be fun to share some of our stories.  Many years ago I took a depo which was very demanding, realtime, tech problems, the works.  I was able to troubleshoot and I must say did an outstanding job as the material was highly technical as well!!!!! When going around the room taking lunch orders, the witness who was an Indian chemist ordered a vegetarian lunch. As I had renounced meat for…

more work less pay?

When I first  started reporting many, many moons ago, it was just myself and my writer.  As time went by, my writer was joined with a hookup to my own personal computer and then to many computers for Realtime and now hooking up via Skype and WebEx, along with hookups and teleconferencing. The job of a reporter is a dynamic one, but what about the renumeration?  Recently, in NYC and from what I have read online, many agencies are bundling the…

REPORTERS BEWARE

Recently, I was asked to swear in a witness from a remote location, the witness was not in the room with me.  I was told that the attorneys agreed to the remote swearing in.  It is very important for a reporter to know what their state rules are regarding our authority to do this.  In my state, it is not permitted and because the attorneys agree to it, it does not make it legal.  All it would take is for one attorney to question the legality of that procedure and your license would be on the…

CAN YOU RELATE?

The United Nations had a visitor last week who is an acknowledged mass murderer and terrorist responsible for the deaths of thousands, including many students onboard the Lockerbee. His name is Moammar Khadafy, spelled many different ways, oil rich and a rambler par excellence. During his 96 minute torturous, no pun intended, speech, the official UN interpreter raised his hands imploring mercy and said, "I can't take it anymore!" His speech apparently was rather extemporaneous, including… Continue

INTERNET RATES

How would you consider invoicing a Livenote internet streaming depo which has five people viewing remotely? If the agency is getting a fee, shouldn't the reporter be getting a percentage of that?

COVERING DEPOS

Has anyone noticed that often you get an email regarding very enticing international work or heavy realtime work and the individual doesn't reach out to you when you have called?

GETTING AUDIO TO SYNC WITH TEXT

When you are syncing the text with the audio, do the timestamps start at 00:00:00 or must they be SET to the actual time that the depo starts. Thanks!

HELP WITH TECHNICAL QUESTION-Pulling my Hair Out!!!

I have tried to solve this technical error: print spooler subsystem error. This error message prevents me from printing and also prevents me from downloading new drivers. I have tried many different approaches, including cleaning my registry and scanning all my files. I called IBM and they said they do not support Microsoft!!! Any ideas as to how to fix this problem?
