Welcome to CSR Nation
Hi all! Just let me vent.... my son just came home from Afghanistan. Worked his A-S-S off defending our country. At the grocery store tonight, our neighbor asked him if he killed anybody while he was over in Afghanistan. This lady is probably like 55 years old. He said, "I'm uncomfortable with that question." You never ask a veteran that question. I wanted to punch her. I don't know if she's uninformed on etiquette or just a dumb *&^%! I'm sure most of you know not to ever ask such a inappropriate question! Just had to vent. I'm really thinking of walking down the street and punching her... just joking, but it just floored me....

Ms. Lorraine, please thank your brave son for his service to this country! Americans are proud for his American exceptionalism. I am thankful he has come home safely to you and your family.
She probably thought she was just making general conversation. If she doesn't have any children in the service, or her father wasn't in the service (WWII), all she really knows is what she sees and hears, such as the "Join the Army. Be somebody." She has no real comprehension.
Oh, yeah, I'm friends with her. I think she was embarrassed. No biggie. Thanks for your kind response.... last little opinion of mine.... no war in Syria.... :)
Excellent answer, Kelli!
And your son responded very appropriately.
A BIG thank you to Luke and his comrades, although I always feel a thank you isn't nearly enough for the men and women who serve our country so bravely and selflessly.
Thanks, Randall! You're right. She probably didn't know better. Very sweet lady. Looking back on my post, I was much "madder" that day than I am now. It's funny how we get so pissed off and then a week or month later, the steam of our anger disappears.... Thanks again for your kinds words. I will let Luke know your appreciation. :) By the way, my son is the best looking soldier in the US Army, in my humble opinion!! :)
I can't believe somebody is that insensitive to ask a question like that. I am so sorry he had to go through that.
You know, I can't say that was the right question to ask. Your son should have said, "Yes, ma'am I did, but they all deserved it." I bet that would have shut her up in a heartbeat.
