Hi all!!!

I'm a fairly new reporter, almost a year, living in Southern California.  I have been contemplating buying cables for real time so that attorneys can hook up.  However, as I ask around, veteran reporters and agencies, I am noticing that real time is rarely requested in depos.  I can understand in court since you are connected with the judge.  So my question is, is it worth my investment to purchase the cables?

I'm going to ask the question.  what is your tran rate?

No doubt you should realtime every job for yourself.  it's a tremendous benefit -- however, if you cannot write clean, you cannot provide a good product.  that doesn't mean you have to be perfect -- no one is. BUT you need to write way below 1.0 consistently.  If you don't have your tran stats on, i could tell you how but I don't knwo what software you are on.

I'll sell you all my cables and dongles and depo book multi-line connector for $50.  I was going to E-bay them.  I have Stenocast now.

Hi, Nancy.  You should look into going wireless before you buy cables.  I don't remember prices, but I think prices are comparable.  As Kelli said, bring your realtime supplies with you so you can offer it if someone is interested.  There are many agencies in Southern Cal that need reporters who offer realtime.  It's a huge market down there.  Ask here at CSR Nation and search in Facebook for realtime groups (Realtime Learn and Share or something similar to that is one) to learn what you should buy.  Go to the DRA (Deposition Reporters Association in California), CCRA, and NCRA's websites and/or Facebook pages to ask about firms in your area that are looking for realtime reporters and find out more information on the different ways to provide realtime.

I've seen on Facebook in the LA area requests for a realtime reporter the last two days at the last minute.  My understanding is there is a shortage of realtime reporters in the LA area.  I am getting that impressions from posts I see on FB.
