I got turned onto You-Convert-It-dot-com right here at CSRnation. THANK YOU, MONTI. I love it, love it, love it.

I would like to find out if there may be a better or more appropriate way to post a small audio file for others to listen to, in an effort find out what a word is. We all run into difficult words from time to time, and a fresh ear is always handy. We got a lot of fresh ears on this forum. :-)

Here is the text: "What you started to see in the '60s was the philosophy imported from Europe of people like Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the collectivist mind-set, the general will, the individual as a part of a collective with no rights, except those granted by the collective, and it was guised under the term of "self-actualization," which was really [GROM-shee (ph)] and others grasping at Rousseau through Marxism and putting the cultural dimension into it."

Whew, what a mouthful. GROM-shee? Who or what is that? Anybody know? Below is a 26-second .MP3 audio file.

Allison,

You and I are on the same wavelenght. I just did some brainstorming with my husband, and we could only think of Noam Chomsky.

Bubbie Karen
Gramsci? I tried to copy a link here. Didn't work. Will try again.

Pat
Here's the link: http://www.alamo-girl.com/0341.htm

Not totally sure that's what you're looking for, but...

Pat
Pat,

What did you do to research? Do please share. Thanks

Bubbie Karen
I'm no history buff, so I Googled "France and Gramshee," hoping Google would respond with, "Did you mean (whatever)?" Luckily, "gram-shee" appeared in that article, so it was picked up by Google.

Google is my hero!!

Pat
P.S. I didn't actually put it in Google as "France and Gramshee." It was France and Gramshee, no quotes.

Pat
Pat Porter, you are the cat's meow! BINGO!

Thanks to all for your wonderful expertise in helping me.

In my best Ryan Seacrest voice, "THIS is CSRnation." :-)

[Round of applause]
[Standing ovation]
Interesting!

They didn't include this in Sociology 101 or PoliSci 101, did they?!!
Gramsci, who knew? Sicilian origin. He had nice hair as well as brain, apparently. ;-)

A sidebar note and obliquely related:

An article about Abraham Maslow and his input. Scan/scroll 7/8s down to the
Discussion section. Chomsky is mentioned but Gramsci was more than likely
considered by the lecturer as a forerunner to the thinking resulting in the self-actualization movement.

A good many self-actualizers on csrnation!! Applause. Applause!
