My laptop was delivered today. It looks like the one I ordered, but with HALF the RAM! My software will be here in several days; so I have to do an emergency replacement. I thought this would be a great place to seek product advice. I would love to hear from people who are happy with their laptop and don't have software-compatability issues. Any advice would be appreciated.
Tami, I recently bought a Lenovo T500 from e-Verbatim, my local Advantage Software distributor. I have been very happy with it. They set it up so it is ready to go when you receive it. I realtime every day and have not had problems at all with it.
Susan, I am in the market for a laptop, also, as my IBM T41 that I got from Eclipse
is now coming on five years old. When you bought your T500 from E-Verbatim,
did they load Eclipse on for you? Did you send them your ini file so they could
load that on, too? Do you have XP on it or Vista? If you wouldn't mind letting
me know, I would appreciate it.

FYI. I too am looking for a new laptop and went to Advantage's website and ThinkPad/Lenovo's. I have the T43 right now. Advantage's laptop T500 pkg is about $2695, and yes, they load Eclipse for you. But on the Lenovo website I customized/built the same T500 with a 250 G hard drive and 2.66 GHZ and it has Vista Home Basic instead of Vista Business. No biggie for me. Lenovo's asking price for the T500 that I customized is $1271, and that includes the same screen size as Advantage's at 15.4", a 1 yr warranty, Laplink PC mover w/USB cord to move files super easy and ThinkPad's privacy filter. At a $1400 savings, I'll load Eclipse myself.
I haven't hit the "Buy Now" button. Not yet anyway.
Here's the name of a gentleman formerly associated with IBM/Lenovo, and he's working on putting a laptop together for me with more, more, more of everything!
Last time I spoke with him was this morning. So if you call/e-mail him, just give him my name from CSR Nation.
Good luck!

I'm not a techie myself, but I have a lot of friends who are computer geeks, and several of them have said Toshiba is a good brand. I have one now, and it has been reliable.
Before you go and buy a whole new computer, it might be possible just to replace the internal hard drive for a fraction of the cost, to get the increased power you want...
Thanks, Carilyn. I should have updated here. My computer problem has been temporarily solved. A friend mentioned that she runs Eclipse on a four-year-old Dell Inspiron, at which point I realized, "Hey, I have one of those in the garage." Mine was exiled due to a small crack developing near the hinges. It will do for now while I am getting my speed up and learning my updated software. My next computer will be a Toshiba.
