New Jersey Rule: Free Transcript Copy for the Other Side?

Would someone please remind me.  I thought I remember seeing it mentioned on here somewhere that it's the New Jersey rule that the other side gets a free transcript copy. Does this rule apply to either federal or superior court or both? I unwittingly took a NJ case once, and, to my surprise, the other side got a free copy, but I don't remember the specifics around that.  Thanks.

Only Superior Court of the State of NJ.  But play dumb and try to get a signed order from the other "free copy" side.   I covered a few of these jobs for NY lawyers who didn't seem to know the BS rule.  Just say to them, "Oh, I don't know about that and we don't do it here."  Bully them into submission!

I just don't know how the !#*@ a rule like this got passed.

Marge, do you know if a higher rate is charged for the O & 1 in this case? That would be a fair and reasonable thing to do, as the free copy doesn't print/produce itself and requires use of equipment and manpower.

I'm a California CSR, but I worked in NJ for two years when I married my NJ husband in '95, and I can tell you that they do NOT charge more for an O&2 in NJ.  I made a lot less per page in NJ for the "standard" O&2 than I did for a standard SoCal O&1.

I completely agree with Marge.  If the depo is in CA, charge for the second copy.  They can work it out between themselves as to who is going to pay for the second copy.  Just get a signed copy order, if possible.

You don't have to play by NJ rules when you're not a NJ CSR.  We can't be bound by another state's wacky codes when it comes to free transcripts.

Deborah DeSilva is completely correct!

Gee, thanks :)
