Hello everyone. As I am sitting here editing a job at 12:18am and about to get up for another one in the morning, I thought I'd give a quick post for a break and to make sure I wasn't crazy. I wanted to know if other people "thought" in steno. I will get in moods where I will hear the TV or the radio or a conversation, and everything that is said, I think in my head what the steno would be. Sometimes it actually keeps me awake at night with the TV.

Just wanted to make sure I haven't lost it yet. I've only been working for a year and a half and have a long time ahead of me! lol:)

You may have lost it so badly that there's no hope for you. However, be sure, you're not alone. I read road signs in steno.
I see the word philosophy and I'm pronouncing it MILOSOPHY -- you may be certifiable, but you're not alone!
Now, take two aspirin, go to sleep, and have an easy and lucrative day tomorrow.
You guys are great:) It is so nice to be able to converse with people who know what I'm talking about... at least we can all meet in the asylum together;) I live in a small town and drive at least 50 minutes to almost any job I have, and my agency is states away and communicates mostly through email and phone. Needless to say, there are not a lot of reporters around to talk to! lol.

You mentioned you're in NYS. Where in NY? I'm live in Dutchess County, was working in Rockland County. I had been driving an hour plus to work every day, and then home again. I hated it. No more, I've just retired.
After I left that last reply, I saw your page and that you were close. I live near Sherburne. lol. Small world!!!
Sherburne is not that close, as I recall. Isn't that near SUNY Oneonta ? That's a couple of hours away, at least, as I remember it when my older son was applying to colleges (ten years ago?) we took a drive up to see the campus. Or am I geographically-befuddled?

I just looked at your online profile and see you were just married, August 23rd. Congratulations. So was my older son.

Just looked at your online profile and see you were married Aug 23 -- congrats --so was my older son.

OK, just did a MapQuest of Sherburne -- you're in the boonies, my dear. East of the Baseball Hall of Fame, south of Rome. Sheesh, no wonder you're traveling an hour or more for each job. I think you're closer to Pennsylvania than you are to me. Further than SUNY Oneonta.
Haha. Well, at least we're in the same state. lol. Your son was married the same day?? That's crazy.. but awesome! It was a wonderful day for it!!!!
I don't know what it was like in NYS, we were on the OTHER coast. They're living in the LA area. But it was hot (in the sun) but there was a breeze, so it was very comfortable outside during the ceremony.
Hi Erica,

I don't think you're nuts. I've been reporting for 28 years and after a long day of heavy reporting,I STILL report in my head every single word I hear while I'm listening to the radio on my way home. It's like I can't turn it off. I also see "words" in license plates that aren't personalized all over the place. I'm alway a pretty good briefer, and I find myself figuring out briefs as I'm watching TV at night. Nobody knows this but me (until now!), but I'm constantly doing it and have for years. I THINK I'm sane...

When I was a reporter I used to read stuff in steno all the time. I even had Tee shirts made up in steno so I could . . . ahem . . . exercise my Freedom of Speech without being offensive. You'd know who the court reporters were because they would look at me, read my shirt and bust up laughing.

As a scopist, my biggest problem now is I am always scoping. When I'm watching TV, I'm punctuating as it goes on, thinking of how it should look on paper.
