I'm having trouble listening to someone's audio and another reporter told me about Express Scribe, but I don't know where to find it or what it is. Can anyone help?

Misty, the link to the Express Scribe site is: http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/. It is Digital Transcription Audio Player Software that is a free program that works with various audio formats. Also, there is a program called FTR that works well, too. The link is: http://www.fortherecord.com/intro.asp?FL=Y.

Cheers!
Sherry,

Thank you so much. I'm going to check it out right now.
Hi, Misty.

Sherry has already answered your question ... but in an instance like this, you have to remember the following expression:

"Google is your Friend!"

If you plug in "Express Scribe" (include the quotes to cut down things like "Federal Express," etc.) into Google, the very first hit you get is the correct link.

That said, someone posted on one of the forums a very interesting article on how to be a Google Power User (feel free to grunt like Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor after reading!). You can read that here:

http://www.dumblittleman.com/2008/12/how-to-become-google-power-use...

Fair warning: You may spend a LOT of time on Google, just messing around after reading this!

Good luck to you.

I did downloand everything. I'm still trying to figure out how to listen from the jumpdrive and be in my software. It's another reporter's audio and I'm editing the transcript, but when I pull up the audio, I can hear it, but I can't stop it. This is all new to me, so I'm trying to figure it all out.
Hi, Misty.

Do you have a pedal? If not, do you know someone you can borrow one from?

Basically the pedal allows you to stop, start, and rewind your audio, without having to take your hands off the keyboard! I had mine set to go back five seconds when I took my foot off the pedal. Saves you from wondering if you are in the right place, or did the cat come and step on your pedals while you were away! :o)

Good luck ... and hope this helps.

Misty,

I love using Express Scribe. I'm not 100 sure what you're having difficulty doing, but it sounds like you don't know how to download the audio from jump drive onto Express Scribe.

If you haven't figured it out yet, may I suggest:

Click Start, My Computers, click on the jump drive; and then click on the file your want to download. When you get to the audio file, right click on it, and click on "open with Express scribe." ES will open and download the program. You will actually see it downloading.

Also, you don't need a foot pedal to use the program. There are keyboard commands that many people love using that you can set up in ES. I find that the keyboard commands are in conflict with my CC commands, so I do use a foot pedal. It works for me.

If you need further assistance, I'm happy to help. Good luck.

Thank you to everyone. I'm getting a lot of help.
Go to www.nch.com.au/scribe. You'll find it there. I think the main product name comes undeter NCH.
