On Courtreportersite.com Jennie posted information about Shellac nail polish.  I just tried it.  I've had it on since Friday.  It can last 2 to 3 weeks.  So far, no chips.  It looks like the day I had it put on.  I have not written on my machine yet so I'm interested to see how it holds up to that.  I'm hoping it will stay on.  It's so nice to have on polish.

Have you ever tried this product?

I had it done for my trip to Europe and I got tons of chips in them.  It's more expensive and I was not thrilled with the fact it chips.  Maybe my lady that does my nails doesn't know how to do it right or something.  I went back to the regular acrylics.

I've tried it -- twice -- and it peeled off.  Maybe I just got two bad manicurists, but I won't waste my money on it again.

But, something else I've tried (another part of the body, though) and it's wonderful is Latisse for my eyelashes and brows.  The stuff really does work.  I have very short and thin lashes and they almost hit my brow now.  Any my brows were almost nonexistant.  After using Latisse on them, I now have my own eyebrows.  They're still growning in blonde, but at least there's something to tint.

Judy,

Did the Latisse change the color of your iris in your eye?  They advertise that that is a possible side effect.  They also say it can darken your eyelid.  Did you notice any problem with your eyelid?  I'm definitely interested in that product.

My hands were in water a lot today.  Tomorrow I will be writing on my machine so we'll see how that goes.  I did have them use the Shellac polish.  I know you can use any polish.  I don't know if that makes any difference.  So far I am really amazed and pleased.

I just remembered that my mom mentioned she had tried the Shellac polish and it didn't work for her either.  She said possibly the lady put it on too thick.

Today I wrote on my machine with the Shellac.  My nails still look great.  Granted it was only a two-hour job but I just can't believe how great they look.  I have had my hand in water doing dishes and they still look like the day I got the manicure. I'm totally sold on this stuff.

Yeah, I think the manicurist has a lot to do with it, which is why on the second time around I questioned her for a while on her experience using the stuff.  But I even have issues with acrylic chipping prematurily on my nails.  I guess I'm just very hard on them.

As far as the Latisse, I was told the red eye issue was for blue-eyed people.  I have blue eyes and my whites were a dull red for a couple weeks, but I wasn't sure that was Latisse-related versus other issues.  And, no, my eyelids did not darken.

Glad to hear your nails still look great.  My daughter had good luck using it.

Judy,

I'm so interested in the Latisse.  I would like to try that.

Polish update, I had two 1/2 day depos and one full day depo plus typing for editing this week, lots of time in dishwater.  I practically have to wash my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher.  That's another story.  Well, my nails still look like the day I had them done.  It's been a little over a week.

I have acrylics and was talking to my manicurist about that stuff because a friend had a bad experience.  He said some people don't want to pay the extra money to get the special remover and to put it on with the correct steps so they have problems.  He does it but charges more than for a fill because the ingredients are so expensive if they do it right.

Judy, how can you chip an acrylic?  Mine wear at the ends but never chip.  Have you tried a different manicurist?

Since I moved to San  Diego six years ago, I don't think I've gone to the same manicurist a second time.  Maybe the same salon, but never been impressed with somebody enough to request them.  Mine will generally start lifting at many of the edges (usually within days), then get caught on something and it's history.  They lift first.

Years ago -- oh, 20ish -- I had no problem.  I think now everybody's so competitive, lowering their rate (we have a lot of competing corner sign spinners, "$19," "$18," "$14") and we're -- not just San Diego -- getting cheap/inferior/watered-down products as an end result (does this sound like the court reporting profession??).

Heck, nowadays, when I do get stupid enough to order a full set vs a straight manicure, I have to also order a mini-manicure (and pay for) so they'll take care of my cuticles properly vs. using a drill over them (ouch).  It really is easier and more cost effective if I bypass all of the watered-down extras and go for a straight, inexpensive mani/pedi.

And, you know, if they're really going to give a half-assed attempt at a foot/calf massage, they really should take "no" as my final answer the first time they ask me if I want to pay extra for extra minutes!

You know, back to the 20-year-ago scenario, they never did the "massage" thing back then (nor did they offer teeth whitening services), kind of like the CR profession didn't offer full meals with depos.  I wonder how well a manicurist's half-assed massage compares to CR agencys' full catered meals, and what the corresponding service of the drill over the cuticle (or totally ignoring the cuticle) is in the CR profession.  Just saying.

I went into a couple nail salons here in town, and the price was $25.  Is that reasonable?

Yes, that's the price I found too.  At that price you may have to pay a little more if you want them to clean up your cuticles.

Also, if your hands are in dishwater, I would use gloves.  I think you might get three weeks out of it if you use the gloves.  I got two weeks out of mine but I didn't have gloves when I was washing dishes.

I just got mine done again on Saturday.  I love this stuff.

Call me cheap, but I I'm not sure I want to spend that.  I'm bad about pampering myself.  My husband usually makes me do it; although, I did Google it, and I think you can buy a system to do it yourself.  I'll check into it further.  I may do it once, at least, for Christmas.  We'll see.  I'll have to call you and discuss this website.  I'm still foggy on everything.  :)
