Eclipse Version 5 Users

This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Kelli, if you turn AM off, your 7, 8, 9, and 0 hyperkeys will work in v5 same as they always have.  I don't think anything was changed with Shift N, unless that does some other function with AM on.  You should take a look in your keyboard settings and make sure it's assigned properly.  My Shift N is assigned as Macro: # > Digits - Hyp.

Stacy, if you define AEP as {^'} and AEPS as {^}'s, I think you'll get the results you want.

The only benefit I have found (used it three days now) is that the auto brief now includes numbers, which I like.  I don't appreciate Advantage changing the hyperkeys and not telling anyone.  It really slows everything down to have to stop and think why what you hit is not working.

I will give it a little longer, but boy, I'm not a happy camper.  Not that many features to be thrilled about yet at least that I can tell.  I stopped using AutoMagic the first day; covers up the testimony and I can't see what I'm writing.  Don't get that.

I wasn't, Wynne.  My  's worked in 5 before with words that ended in "s" ~ this is the first time I think it's come up since I've updated to 16.

Kelly, I think it takes some getting used to, but I really do love 5.  On the numbers, if you use AM, it gives you so many options.  If you write three, it seems like the options are always 3, $3, 3:00, etc.  It does take some getting used to.  I stopped using the pop-up window.  I did use it for a while, but for some reason it bugged me.  I really thought I'd never get used to the side window, but I have and just automatically know to look quickly and pick a number for the edit.  I do wish in RT your autobriefs stayed above the edit commands, because often I edit in my upper screen while a wit. is looking at a doc or it's slow and then if they start talking, I can follow in my bottom screen, but then I can't see any briefs.  You have to page all the way down again to see any new briefs that come up.  And then at a break or slow part, I have to go back to where I was editing.  Anyway, just a wish :)

Kelli,

I think your Hyperkeys will still work if you just turn AM off.

Stacy,

Were you using an AutoBrief suggestion by any chance when this happened?

I am using the external monitor, like Jenny, and it is great.  I love, love, love it!!  I didn't care one bit for AutoMagic and turned it off.  I agree with Wynne, Kelli.  V5 is great.  No reason to go back to V4 . . just turn AM off.

Kelli, I would stay in 5 but just turn AutoMagic off.  There are some other features of the version that are worth it.

I'm having some other issues too.  Shift N used to convert numbers, like a three to 3.  That doesn't work anymore, along with the 7, 8, 9, 0 in hyperkeys.  This new version is totally slowing me down.  I can't edit as fast any longer.  I'm going back to V4 unless I have a daily.  Screw it!!

Had this come up today and am thinking it's a new issue because I just updated to 16 and haven't had it happen before.  Witness's name was Graves.  I write 's as AEPS and just apostrophe as AEP.  When the atty said "Graves's," I wrote my AEPS stroke and Eclipse changed it to just apostrophe.  Regardless of which stroke I wrote, just the apostrophe would show up.  Is there a setting I need to change?  I"m guessing something's in there telling Eclipse to ignore the "s" after the apostrophe if the word ends in "s."  I don't want that, though.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Christy, for the input.  I'm going to struggle along with this for awhile....may join you and Jenny later, though, in the external monitor group!

I think I've messed with that before and that's why I got rid of the info bar.  If I get the popup window font big enough to see it, then the info bar gets too wide and I just take it off.  I'm getting that external monitor like Jenny, though, and solving this problem altogether on it taking up too much space.  It's only $139 and I'm sure I can use it for something else.  Tax write-off!
