Promoting ourselves to students and other thoughts

Posted on the NCRA forum by me tonight.....as follows:

I've always been an advodcate to student reporters when I had the chance. By that, what I mean is that when I worked in San Antonio, there was two court reporting schools there and I always tried to hire students to be my scopist. I was always very pleased to see them progress through the time they were with me and, for the most part, a lot of them went on to become reporters. It felt good to think that perhaps I had a part in… Continue

Need an excuse to CART

All:

I want to share some experiences and maybe inspire some to reconsider whether to CART or not to CART.

There are so many talented reporters in this country that are missing out on something that is an unbelieveable experience that you'll never get to enjoy in the legal arena.

Imagine going to a job where you're going to write for the hard-of-hearing (HOH). You're going to walk into a setting where you may or may not have a clue of what is about to happen. It… Continue

Have you answered "The Challenge"?

Okay. The RPR results are generally out. Did you complete "The Challenge" I posted several months ago? Did you improve yourself? Are you still preparing for the November test? If not, why?

I complete my RPR and passed that. Yea! I'm excited about that. But....one of my other reporters also passed the RPR and beat my score by two errors. I don't like to lose. LOL I hate losing. I gave them grief about it. We actually laughed because I'm very happy that they passed and that they did… Continue

Request to Refresh

Vendors/Providers/Reporters:

I've sat quietly too long again on this subject of "refresh" on the viewing programs.

I think that I can safely say that most reporters in this profession would greatly appreciate it if they could have the "refresh" feature work with their current software, and, that it would work with all the viewing programs that are available in the market.

Whether I'm on Eclipse and outputting to Livenote or I'm on ProCat outputting to Caseview… Continue

What's Your Story

WHAT'S YOUR STORY

(Who influenced you?)

When I was very young, I met this man that, over the years, was pretty influential in my life. I would see him often and as I was growing up, he would always encourage me to participate in activities, such as sports and do good in school and other things.

I never once heard a cuss word come out of his mouth...never. He was always very respectful to others and everyone seemed to like him and he fit into any crowd and was always… Continue

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind. Hopefully I'll be able to get started in the near future. . .

I just read your blog about CART work, and I thought you might be able to give me some valuable input. I'm a high-speed student interested in pursuing CART, but I'm wondering how to determine that you're ready. I take the responsibility seriously, and I don't want to get started too soon and let someone down.
I passed everything up to 200 as of about two months ago, but I got from 60 to 200 in less than a year, so I feel like there hasn't been enough time to really master each speed before I moved on to the next. I'm having a dificult time trying to gauge where I'm really at.
If you have any suggestions, I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

I want to say hi and say I admire your fore rightfulness. You are a very intelligent man who show more spunk and determination in helping this profession than the majority I have met in person. I wish more teachers had your spunk and desire to help those wanting to enter into this profession. Did you every think about giving seminars to teachers helping them to motivate and challenge their students to succeed?
You are of a special breed. I have had a teacher like you who was blind, yet he taught four grades, 5th through 8th, in a four room school. Even though he was handicap officially, he was anything but handicapped. He had total control of each of his classes, respected by his students, and the ability to make each one of us feel unique. You are very much like him. Please keep up the good work and give yourself a pat on the back because you deserve it.

Hi, Breck!
Thank you so much for leaving that great post on my blog about RT scoping! I'm so glad that you took the time to write. It will help a lot of us who are interested in learning about live scoping. I'm posting this message on your page because I'm not sure you will know that I have posted something similar directly onto my blog page as well. Thanks again :)

Hi Breck. It's me again. :) Is it possible for me to edit and print my test in this Eclipse Student Version? I'm having a problem and I don't know if it's the program or my laptop. When I am editing in the program, there is a little rectangle box that comes up and as soon as it does that I get an error message saying that Eclipse has to close. When I open it up again, everything is lost. It's been very frustrating. I have ended up just typing all my test from my notes. I guess that's not a totally terrible thing. Do you have any suggestions? I'm going to be taking the RPR in May and I don't want to be the only "fogie" typing from my notes. LOL
