The Color of Money

I am so happy that I just have to share my joy.

My boyfriend, significant other, partner -- I hate the term "boyfriend" at my age -- had an acting part in the movie "The Color of Money" in 1986 with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise. In fact, Paul Newman received his first Academy Award for playing Fast Eddie Nelson in this movie.

How my boyfriend got the part was that he's a well-known professional pool player:… Continue

Reading back format

Hello all. Haven't written in a while because things are SUPER busy. Been out of town a lot, too. And just recently got our second "child," another one of the most adorable/gorgeous/huge great danes you'll ever see:) His name is Kaden. I will post some pictures on my page.

Anyways, way off topic there. I am just wondering how you show in the transcript when you read back. At my first company, I was taught to do it this way:

THE REPORTER: "Q: Where do you… Continue

Swear in witness

One of the reporters that is covering a job for me in Miami just called me and said an attorney wants her to swear in a witness over the phone. The witness was to appear for deposition but, he wants to appear by phone at his attorney's office. Told her the witness has to have a notary present, the attorney says no he does not but, the attorney that hired us says, yes he does.

Have you ever had this happen and if so what did you do?? (sent from my iphone) excuse grammar and or… Continue

Tips to control your accounts receivable and past due issues?

HAVE A DEFINED CREDIT POLICY

The first step is to clearly define when accounts are to be paid.

If customers are not informed that accounts are to be paid on time, chances are they will pay late or sometimes not at all.

Make sure that your business's terms of payment are clearly stated in writing to each customer. Include any provisions for interest, late payment penalties, collection fees, legal costs incurred should the unpaid bill not be paid under the… Continue

Tips for Finding appropriate collection services.

Steps to choosing the appropriate collection agency to recover your bottom line profit dollars is an important step in any business.

* Most agencies work on a contingency basis and are competitive with another. Call around and setup sales calls, speak with the sales people so that you know what the rates are.

* If you have debtors nationwide, utilize an agency that works nationwide. Ask about their success rate.

* Ask about specifics. Procedures, reporting, etc.… Continue

Interpreters get away with murder.

So I'm at a depo today. The interpreter says to counsel, "Please say you have an afternoon matter."
Counsel says, "Do you have another matter to go to?"

Interpreter says yes. Attorney ways, well, then I guess we'll have to end early for you. Then during the whole, the interpreter keeps looking at her watch.

If a court reporter did any of the above behavior, we would literally get killed. I swear.

The Senility Prayer

THE SENILITY PRAYER: God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. Amen!

Court reporting or captioning???

I'm already enrolled at Huntington Jr College but I'm still researching other schools & what I'm noticing is that alot of them have a certain curriculum for court reporting or one for CART/captioning. You have to choose. And I'm not sure which one I'm more interested in! I think I'd like to try both. Working as an official court reporter seems very prestigious & important. I feel like I would really be contributing to the legal process. But then being a captioner sounds interesting… Continue

Earn as much as $900 per month!

It’s true. You can get paid to drive your own car, whether to work, to church, to your kids’ soccer games or any of your other normal destinations.

You won’t get rich doing this, mind you, but, in these recessionary times, taking in an extra $300 to $900 a month can definitely come in handy for a lot of folks.

I have seen these cars driving around my area and always wondered why they'd advertise for various companies. The old way was not cost effective, which was to… Continue

Huntington Jr College/Online Students Post

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone out there in CSRnation is or was a student at Huntington Jr College in WV? Thats where I'm starting (online) next year! Also was wondering if there is a group on here for just online students? I didnt see one. But maybe there really isn't a need for one? I mean a student is a student is a student. Whether you're online or go to a brick & mortar.

IS EVERYBODY GETTING PAID?

Is anyone having trouble getting paid for jobs obtained from CSRNation? Maybe the agencies could specify page rate and pay cycle in their blogs to everybody. There is a reason some agencies can't get jobs covered.
Most of the agencies are wonderful, but there are also some that are taking advantage.

Maybe we could post names after 45 days?

Some days I really miss court reporting school and all the friends I made there

I heard something today when watching a taped episode of "The Forgotten" from October 27, 2009. Does anybody else watch that show? It's not great. I'm not sure why I was even watching it, other than the fact that my job cancelled today and I was enjoying the freedom of an unexpected day off and being able to sit and watch something while eating lunch. But anyway, this monologue at the end of the most recent episode really grabbed my attention, so I paused the recording, grabbed my laptop and… Continue
