How do they calculate the 7 hours for deposition time?  If a deposition starts at 10:00 and ends at 5:00 with lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 would that be considered 6 hours?  What about breaks throughout the day?  Are they considered deposition time or not?  Had a client ask and I told him I honestly didn't know.  Any input would be appreciated.

No.  It's actual "on-record" time.  Breaks do not count.  Seven hours on record.  Usually get out about 6:30 p.m.

Trust me, I do enough of them, I should know.

What Kelli said.

The attorneys used to ask me to keep time; I despised that. Thank goodness someone -- on here, I think -- informed me that Eclipse actually has a timekeeper. What a convenient, useful gift!!!

Quyen, you need to tell me how to use the timer through Eclipse.  I don't know how to do that.  I use the stopwatch through my iPhone, but you need to remember to stop/start.

Go to "Tools" on the menu bar, "Timekeeper," "Next," "Current Document," "Next." Done. :)

So what does it do?  Is there a box that comes up and lets you know the time you've been writing?

It has most of the relevant paragraphs already chosen. You could add/pick more. These paragraph styles are used to determined total time on the record.

I don't think Case Catalyst has a timer that just tracks time on the record.  So what I do is just note down what time we went off and back on the record by looking at my time stamps, and if the atty wants to know how much time we've spent on the record, I will give him those numbers and let him do the math.

Fortunately, frequently there's a videographer, and I let him take care of that.
