I realize that here in Southern California agencies are desperate to cover jobs.  But one agency, which was already at the bottom of my list for their low low rates, will remain at the bottom,…Continue

Agencies' Unidentifiable Emails

This must be a pet peeve for any reporter who freelances for a lot of different agencies.  Even though their email address is something like "calendar@XYZ agency," when I look at the email in my…Continue

Realtime plus Rough Drafts

So I'm interested in other rptrs' experience with this.  Historically, first we had the ability to produce rough drafts before there was realtime.  Let's say it was at $X/page.  Then when realtime…Continue

I'm a depo reporter in L.A.  I just finished a realtime depo where opposing counsel, One Christopher G. Lyster from Lacy Lyster Malone & Steppick in Fort Worth, Texas, stated that his reporting…Continue

EEOC Hearing - what to call judge

I reported a hearing under the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  It's a complainant suing the Dept of Labor for age discrimination.  The complainant is an employee of the Dept of Labor.  The person presiding is an administrative judge.  Not sure if that's a real judge or not, but anyway, I'm trying to figure out what to call him in the hearing.  Is he THE COURT or THE HEARING OFFICER or JUDGE CARTER?  Anybody have any experience with one of these?See More

Agencies Conceal Nature of Job

I realize that here in Southern California agencies are desperate to cover jobs.  But one agency, which was already at the bottom of my list for their low low rates, will remain at the bottom, because the other day I had an early morning cancellation and saw on CSRNation they needed a rptr immediately downtown.  In fact, there were several agencies that needed last-minute that day.  I called this one and got the job info and showed up.  What they did not mention was that it was with a Chinese…See More

Lindsay Pinkham replied to Abda Laurent's discussion Why do attorneys give reporters a hard time?
"One reason is because we are women (most of us).  It's even harder when you're a very young woman.  I find now that I have gray hair, and looking around the table I see that most of the time the attorneys are young enough to be…"

Previously Marked Exhibits

It used to be that when attys would bring out a previously marked exh. (with the photocopied sticker or stamp bearing the previous witness's name and exh. number) and discuss it with the witness, at the end of the depo I would ask counsel if he wanted it attached for reference, along with the exhs marked in the current depo.  And if he said yes, I would send it in to the agency requesting that they attach it, and in my index above the exh. descriptions I would just have a parenthetical, (The…See More
