Could someone tell me here or point me to a Web site/document on instructions for Internet streaming of realtime/text? I would like to learn how to do this and have some questions.

1) Do I need special software?

2) Do I need to have my own mobile wireless Internet, or could I rely on using the law firm's wi-fi?

3) Could text streaming only be done with LiveNote, or could it be done with Eclipse and Bridge?

If my questions don't even make sense, it's because I have no idea what I'm talking about. Basically, I just would like to learn how to do Internet streaming.

More specifically and immediately, I need to know how to do text streaming by next Tuesday!!!

Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well, that's not good: I'm on Vista and am about to call Eclipse tomorrow to get TeleView. If I/we can't get it to work and Eclipse gives me back the $299 subscription, then I'll be happy. If the firm needs to give the job to someone else, then so be it, I guess . . . I tried.  Do you know if Breck is on Vista?

I spoke with Eclipse tech earlier, and he gave me a quick rundown of how it works. He said they'd walk me through setting it up and testing it. It sounded easy enough, but I'm kind of leery now that you mentioned no one has gotten it to work except ONE person. Not good odds.

It's no wonder LiveNote is (going) out of business. Their customer service (or, more aptly, lack thereof) sucks.

So have you ever streamed yet, Judy?

No, never done it.  I had that one request and that was it.

There could be more people than Breck that have been successful, but he's the only confirmed one that I know of.  I don't know him personally, just heard.  You can friend him on Facebook and I'm sure he'll help you.  He seems like a very giving guy of his time.

Quyen,

Honestly, I have always called them and the wait time has not been too bad.  I have a speakerphone so I just keep editing while I wait to get to the right person.

Good luck,

Janiece

Quyen, you can call me (you have my phone number) and I'll walk you through it anytime you have a minute.  I prefer Court Room Connect, but this week I had to do LiveNote Streaming.  LNS is more of a pain in the butt but still not that big of an issue.  The problem I had was I hadn't done it in a year and a half and since then they changed their procedures and said now I had a password that I should know about, which I never set up.  So when I went to set it up, it's asking for my personal password that only I know.  I never had a password, so I had to call them and have them change it and give me a new one over the phone.  I couldn't access my email to figure out what this fictitious password was they gave me.

Anyway, I went in after the depo and gave myself a new password so I won't forget it when I have a new depo with Livenote Streaming.  Sort of frustrating because that never was an issue before.  I'd go in, get online, put in the IP address and the case name and the username that my office gave me and that's it.  Now they changed everything without letting anyone know.

Who knows when they're going to decide to do that again.  I only had six attorneys around the table and the job was a daily.  Talk about stressed out because I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work when it always had in the past.  Finally when I called them and demanded a new password, everything was fine.  Whatever.  Just what you need is a little more stress on a job like that.

You can't do it with Ecllpse or Bridge.  Needs to be Livenote or CourtRoomConnect.  Maybe there are a few others that I don't know about.  Also being hard-wired in is a plus for a more stable Internet connection.  Any other questions, call me.

Thanks, Kelli. I might take you up on the offer to call you sometime this weekend, if that's okay.

So far I've got the LN session scheduled. I've installed the Stream Manager. I do have the user ID and password part, but I can't do much else since my session has not yet been approved. I can't go in to configure it, apparently, until they approve the session.  Pfffttt! They make their stuff so inconvenient/difficult to use!

Janet also mentioned Courtroom Connect.  Would you mind telling me why or what it is about Courtroom Connect that you prefer over LiveNote, other than possibly being irritated/annoyed at LN? :)

I have a few questions about Courtroom Connect:

1) Do I have to pay for the streaming software?

2) Where do I go to download the software? I couldn't find it anywhere on their Web site.

3) How much are the sessions, and who pays for them: me (the reporter) or the CR firm?

4) How does the client view the transcript/text?

5) Does setup take long? Could I get it set up and tested by next Monday?

What are the fees for Courtroom Connect?

Thanks so much in advance!

Here is the link to download Cat Shuttle which you need to use Courtroom Connect with Eclipse:

The software is free.  I don't know what their session charge is.  Most of the time the agency sets up the session.  I have done it myself a few times.  You should be reimbursed if you pay for the session.  Setup doesn't take long.  Their tech support is great.  They'll walk you through.    The client views the transcript at a web address.   The one thing I don't like about Courtroom Connect is you can't see the text as it's being streamed.  You can just see a count of words going out.  Personally, I prefer to see the text to know that everything is going right.

Another thing I don't like about CRC is you can't see who is online viewing your transcript.  That's important for billing purposes.  Not quite sure why they do that.  You have to email them and ask for that info.

One time I was on a daily and they didn't get back to me in time and I had to guess who gets billed.  Wasn't very happy about that.  I guess nothing is perfect.

Oh, yeah, I would want to know who is viewing, too, so that's a bummer.

Quyen,

Is this your client or are you doing this for an agency?

I'm doing this for an agency. Just found out today that the firm had already set up the session.

I need to bring an extra laptop to stream on. Apparently, this is how the attorney wants it done.  Could someone tell me how this works? The firm is using LiveNote, so I don't have much choice in the matter as far as the streaming software; I guess that solves that issue. LiveNote told the firm that if I get to the job an hour early, they will walk me through it. Not sure how reliable their customer service is. Makes me totally nervous that they want to set up the DAY OF.

Install the Stream Manager on the second laptop    You don't need it on the laptop you're using for Eclipse.  There is a configuration window in Stream Manager where you select input.  Just select serial and the COM port number that you'll be receiving the feed into.  Make sure the Virtual Port box is not checked.  (The only time you'd ever check that box is if you have Stream Manager on the same laptop as Eclipse and you were strictly streaming online, no direct connections in the conference room.)  All of your settings for realtime output in Eclipse should be the same as when you output to LiveNote, (CaseView, 2400 baud).

Don't be nervous.  It will go fine.  It's just another connection.   Honestly, the only trouble I've ever had is when I use the Stream Manager on the same laptop with my CAT software.  With the second laptop, there won't be issues.

Thanks so much, Janet. That's a bit more comforting to know.  I just have a couple more questions.

1) Do I set up like I would with realtime, using my StenoCast red? I plug in my little StenoCast router, and then plug the UBS receiver into the second netbook with the streaming software?

2) Do I set up the job in Eclipse, then go to the second laptop and connect?

3) Where does the client go to view the stream?

Thanks so much everyone for helping me!  I so love this place!  :)
