I bought a new laptop today with Windows 8.

Apparently it is incompatible with my HP LaserJet P2015d printer and I have been unsuccessful in downloading a software upgrade.

So I'm in the market for a new printer.  I print out very little so I think a small desktop will do for me.

I would like to avoid HP, mainly because I can't stand their CEO.

Does anyone have anything good to say about Brother printers?

I have used the Brother in several small law firms.  The laser printers are nice, although still cheap, but cheap in price.  Each of the attorneys who had them complained about the cost of the ink cartridges.  Refilling those cartridges (instead of replacing) was poor quality too.  I also have a HP, and it is a piece of crap (but I got what I paid for).  When I get a new printer I will probably buy one of the Brother Lasers.

If your HP is under 7 years old, I think it would be worth paying for the HP tech support call to get it working.

Yes, there is probably a driver you can download that will make it work with Windows 8.

If you don't do a lot of printing, me, I would use a flash drive, copy my stuff onto the flash drive, and print from my old computer.

I have the Epson Workforce 845 as my scanner/fax/color copier and the spring for the roller on the document feeder bent and broke.  It's only two months old so I need to bring it in to Office Depot.  I still have a HP LaserJet P2055DN that I really like but cartridges are $85 at Costco and they don't seem to last as long as they used to.  Check out the Amazon printer reviews.  they usually have the most reviews for products on their website.  I had a Brother multifunction color printer and the cartridges were expensive and dried out all the time.  I would not recommend them for that reason.

I have a Lexmark T522.  The printer cartridges don't cost much.  They last for about a year.  I bought this printer back when I had to print my originals and carry them into the office.  Wow, glad those days are over.  It prints 30-some pages a minute.  I have had it fixed one or two times.  The guy that fixed it said it would cost about $1,000 to get a printer like this now.  I paid a little over 700 for it years ago.

I had to call Lexmark b/c I had some problems with it about 2 months ago.  They were great.  It's out of warranty but they helped me fix it over the phone.  It took probably about 45 minutes to an hour to figure out the solutions but the support guy kept at it until it was working and there was no charge.

This model is just a black and white printer.

I have a Canon scanner all-in-one.  I really like it.  Their support people are great too.  The color printing is not working so I got a new Lexmark color printer.
