Welcome to CSR Nation
This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.
I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.
Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

No, Quyen, I'm married to Advantage with Passport and Eclipse and getting the lagging.
I turned off TM today and got no lagging today. Wondering, just wondering....
I'm beginning to get the feeling that it's something Stenograph programmed/designed into the Diamante (their) writers to futz with Eclipse just so we'd get sick of these things and buy their software.
I didn't have the lags in E4, though.
Okay, today I just closed out of E5 and the job when I went to lunch, restarted/appended the job when I got back. It seemed to work much better. It was still a bit laggy at some points, but not quite as bad as it was yesterday. It's still doing that lag, spit, lag, spit, lag, spit, enough to be annoying. Is Jeremy aware of this, and is there anything being done about it?
I'm about to go back to E4 again. Apparently, Jeremy has abandoned it, though, and is only working on 5.
Thank you for going to all that effort, Julie. Sounds like we've been given different info. The seminar I went to was just a few months ago.
Hi Wynne! That info I posted from Jeremy on the Diamante was from when Eclipse 5 first came out over a year ago. I just called support to make sure I didn't miss a memo somewhere that the audio tracking wasn't working. I sure haven't heard any complaints like that. They confirmed that you should use the Diamante as your input. Hope that helps!
Quyen, I'm on the same version of TE5 that you are, and I didn't have lag. When I started to use the Passport is when I began to have lag. I have TM set at 1. I even turned it off and still had the lagging. I will read through Chuck's discussion. But my lag happens no matter if I am or am not outputting. I see that the baud rate 38000 is the default setting for the Passport. Requires more sleuthing.
Julie,
I was told a few months ago in a seminar that Diamante users need to choose Stentura as their input so the Eclipse audio will track with the text file. What you posted here from Jeremy seems to indicate something new, that you now don't have to choose Stentura. Am I wrong about this? Do you know when this info from Jeremy came out?
And, if it's true now you don't need to choose Stentura, which version of Version 5 makes that not necessary?
Okay, so I've now selected the Diamante as the writer in the "Input" tab. Baud rate is still set at 9600. I don't have my writer connected to test, but do you think this was the cause of the delay/lag?
Also, it only happened after the lunch break, when I paused Eclipse for about 45 minutes and then resumed. Do you think the pausing is the culprit? I was able to pause just fine in E4. :(
Oh, sorry. That was when he was outputting to somebody, so that probably wasn't very helpful after all.
Here's the info on using a Stenograph writer with Eclipse 5:
Writer interfacing
(Jeremy reverse-engineered!)
Diamante added to list of writers
You can now select the Diamante from the list of writers on the input tab.
Diamante USB realtime interface added
The Mira-style USB interface to the Diamante is now connected. Unfortunately, this
only works in realtime. To read notes, it it still necessary to plug the SD card into the
computer or into an SD card reader. The new note file format is sufficiently different that
the USB interface will require some as-yet-undetermined modifications in order to read
the notes over the cable.
Diamante/Mira/Fusion native note file format interfaced
It is no longer necessary to use the compatibility mode on the Mira or Fusion, nor is it
necessary to use the conversion utility for the Diamante notes.
Eclipse can now directly read the new date/time style filenames from the Diamante,
Mira and Fusion. This includes the time of day and relative timecodes.
IMPORTANT: This means that when you have Mira/Fusion/etc. selected in Eclipse as
your writer, Eclipse is not REQUIRING that the notes be in the newer date/time format.
If your Mira/Fusion is still set to have the note files in compatibility mode, they will NOT work with Eclipse V5.
The best solution is to set the writer to use the newer file format. However, if you need
to read files from the old format the solution is simple: Set Eclipse's writer setting to
Stentura and it will read the older format files just fine.
Diamante/Mira/Fusion audio sync adjusted to account for auto-pause
The timecodes read from the new note files and the jobname.apr files allows Eclipse to
synchronize with the WAV files recorded on the Diamante, Mira and Fusion, even if you
have the auto-pause feature turned on.
Case Catalyst / Diamante dictionary import function added
You can now use Tools/Import/Dictionaries/From Case Catalyst to import the
filename.sgdct files into Eclipse.
Note that it does not currently convert all of the special characters that can appear, but
with enough additional information these could be added later. However, it will convert
all of the words, names, etc., that do not contain special commands such as new
paragaraphs, etc.
Special commands will be converted as raw hexadecimal values such as /x16. If
necessary, find/replace functions can be used to substitute the appropriate Eclipse
syntax. If sufficient examples are sent in to support@eclipsecat.com of what these
special characters are and what they should look like, the converter can be modified to
do those conversions automatically.
