Eclipse Version 5 Users

This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.

I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.

Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Or, Julie, are you talking about the baud rate under the "Input" tab?  I have the Diamante, so Stentura 8000LX and baud rate of 9600.  There was not a choice for the Diamante before, but I see that there is now.  Should I change it to the Diamante, and what baud rate -- in the "Input" tab, that is?

Thanks, Julie. Jenny copied the same discussion for me, I think. It was not a realtime job, so it was only to my own computer.  Therefore, the baud rate would not have anything to do with output to my own laptop, would it? This is one of the reasons I hate switching to new versions!

Quyen, I'm just suggesting you try a lower TM setting to see if it makes any difference in the delay, not necessarily saying you need to put it on 0.  No guarantee it'll have any effect on the delay anyway, but my experience was a high TM number = delay.  I don't consider 11 a high setting, and the delay might have absolutely nothing to do with TM.

Like Wynne, I keep mine at the equivalent of 0 because I've got a "mature" dictionary.  TM will only kick in when an untran is in the picture.

Have you switched antivirus software lately, like maybe something that came preloaded on a new computer?  AV software running during RT can sometimes cause problems, or so I hear.  I've never had problems with mine, so I leave it running all the time and it's always been fine.

Do you have other programs running while you're in RT?

Quyen, there was a big, long discussion about this a while back in the Facebook group, and Chuck Motter was working closely with Jeremy to figure out what was causing a lag.  Several people experienced the same thing.  Rather than try to reword it, here's a link to the discussion where Chuck talks about the baud rate and what was causing the issue for him.

TM will still work when it's set on 0.  I've had mine set on 0 for years.  Anything above that gave me bizarre words for perfect steno.  It depends on the nature of your dictionary but that was best for me.  And on 0 I'm quite happy with it.  It's very helpful.

Ann, I have the Diamante, and in E4, I never had a delay problem.

What is the latest update to E5? I'm on 5.0.0.27.

I have TM on 11.  It worked fine in E4. If it doesn't work in E5 and I have to set it to 0 to prevent the delay, then what's the point? Not being smart. That's a real question.

The only time I've seen any kind of delay of text coming up on the computer screen was when I cranked up the TM number.  It at least used to slow things down when it was hunting for possible TM matches.  I keep at the dev version equivalent of the 0 setting now.  Don't know if that's what's causing your delay, but check to see where you have that number set and maybe try dialing it down a bit and see if that helps.

Of course, you should probably scan your system for viruses, malware, etc., if you haven't already done that.

Quyen, I have the Passport and began experiencing the delay you're speaking of with both the cable and BT.  Never had it happen with any other writer.   Waiting for the nightmare that attorneys don't see it on their screen, so they ask me to read it back and I don't have the testimony yet.  I'm trying to remember precisely when it started happening on every job, but it does.

Anyone know why there is a delay in what I'm taking down and the time it's on my laptop? Very incredibly annoying and scary!!! UGH!
