Welcome to CSR Nation
This group is for Version 5 users to share what aspects of Version 5 they are using and why.....as well as requests for help as problems arise using Version 5.
I just downloaded Version 5 (a year after it came out), and I feel like I'm learning Eclipse all over again.
Would greatly appreciate input from other Version 5 users.

Queyen, don't give up on 5 just yet! The numbers that you would use to select the conflict are the same numbers as those choices in the info bar.
For example, if you have \you're\your as your conflict, over in the info bar in the left margin, you'll have:
1. you're
2. your
So even if you have the info bar turned off in your user settings, the result will be the same when you press those numbers. If yours isn't correlating like that, you may need to update to a later version of 5. There were some annoying things when it first came out that have been corrected in later versions, so be sure you get the latest release version. The development version that's out right now is not ready for prime time yet, so I would leave that one alone. Be sure to get EclUpd and not EclDev!
One idea about the lagging... just wanted to make sure that you all disable your antivirus while you're doing realtime. Some of the programs are really aggressive and can cause problems with macros and lagging.
As far as Version 5 goes, other than the file location, you can pretty much have it look and behave exactly like Version 4 if you want. Most of us don't like change, but I can tell you that after you get over the hump, you'll probably notice that your translations come out better because Eclipse has gotten a lot more sophisticated, and the Auto Brief customization options are awesome. You can do even realtime in 4 and then edit in 5 if you want.
I'm not going near Windows 8 yet. I had issues with the audio freezing up at first with Windows 7. I'm not going near it until it's been out a while and Eclipse has dealt with any bugs that may come up.
I don't use Auto Brief, Wynne. I tried it several different times, and I find it distracting. I don't use Translation Magic either. I like to control what translates. I'm happy with Eclipse the way it is. I know there are a lot of options I don't use. Editing from the steno machine is something I couldn't live without.
I don't even know how anyone would be able to find a laptop with XP on it anymore except, perhaps, from a CAT software vendor.
Janet: It's not even worth the frustration. To try to retrain my brain to do something different that I've been doing for over 11 years IS trainlng an old dog to do new tricks, and this dog ain't havin' it. And the lagging that no one seems to be able to pinpoint the exact cause? Fuggedaboudit. I'm done.
In fairness, I believe most of the problems are due to updates in Windows, especially to Windows 7 and 8. I'm on XP and have not had any problems.
Janet, I like Version 5 because Auto Brief is so much better, and I have it displayed on the left panel, which Version 5 creates.
I would go ahead and get it.....just turn the Auto Magic off.
I've been watching how many posts there are in this group in the last few days. Honestly, I haven't made the switch to 5 because I don't want to take the time for the adjustments. I know eventually I'll have to do it, but I don't want to deal with these kinds of issues.
Well, the Alt key will let you use the numbers to global, but the Alt + number key won't pick a conflict. I have to uncheck the "Use numbers" box in "View toggles."
I think E5 still needs a WHOLE LOT of tweaking. I wish there is something Jeremy could/will do to reduce E5 footprint, if what you say is true about it being a memory hog. In the meantime, I'm going back to E4. I don't have the time/patience for 5.
