Since January of this year I made a vow to keep all my online CSR nation buddies up to date on my experience with switching from steno to Voice.....Well how about this? I have long since passed my voice theory class with an "A" and went on to speed classes where uopn my second day of voice in speed i passed all my 140 speed tests and am now in 160's..who would of thought!!!!!
Lord Jesus!!!!! I made it. Next week on the day of March 22nd marks the end of my first semester of Voice and my final exam!!!!!! I am feeling good about it. Its been a long time since I have posted and I have learned soooooo much!!!!! It was very stressful which is why my last post was in FEBRUARY!!!!!! I must say that voice involves a whole lot of computer stuff!!!!!! A WHOLE LOT!!!!!!!
I have officially ended my third week in voice. We are now learning how to insert our punctuation into or material. I had no idea that we had to say punctuation as well while dictation.....you may be asking yourself how that is possible. Well for those of you who have had the pleasure of getting a taste of both worlds like myself (Steno and Voice) you have come to know that there are such things as "briefs". When you are doing voice and punctuation has come into play its a lot different than… Continue
My first week I have to admit was pretty boring!!!! just alot of breathing excercises and learning how to develop your tone. For voice writing we have to keep our voices inaudible and very monotone(robotic like) really weird when you play it back. I caught on naturally, they say I have found my calling.(smile)
Hey, Malinda. Thanks for the add. I love being a steno reporter, but unless you're almost perfect, you can spend a lot of time in the editing process, and it's hard for me now that I have a little one. I'm hoping to learn voice and get into realtime broadcast captioning. What area are you looking to go into? I spoke to someone at your school and they told me that about half of the court reporters in Georgia are voice writers. I was amazed by that being that I've never even seen one in New York.
Hi, Malinda. I came across your page and see that you're in school for voice writing. I also see that you said that you switched from steno to voice. Were you in school for steno or did you work as a reporter and then decide to switch. I am currently a steno reporter, but started reading about steno and decided that I want to learn it, but it's not popular in NY as well as if I decided to, I would have to most likely learn it online or on my own. Can you tell me a little bit about what the learning process is like?
Hey Malinda! Just wanted to stop be and say hi! How are things at school? I still haven't been able to go back to school yet. Trying to decide whether to go online or go to a local school around here. How is voice writing? Say hi to everyone at school for me. I miss everybody there! Ttyl
