But was it the end of the road, really? When I was growing up the people that were bigger than me would tell me, "God has a plan for you." I often wondered what they meant. And as I struggled through life I asked myself many times is this what God had intended for me? I could never answer the question.

Well, it wasn't the end of the road after all. You see, I had a dream of working from home ever since we moved to Long Island. Not that waking up 2 hours before work and then travelling an hour to get into Manhattan and then working all day and then travelling an hour to get home again was all that bad. But... I didn't like it.

So I talked it over with my wife and we decided to give it a try. 3 months is what I asked for. I was going to try and see if I could make a go of this. I contacted a friend from the agency that I just left who stopped being a court reporter to pursue another career where I could get software. She told me where to go, and I went. Now I have CC software and XEC-2001 software and knowledge and experience, but no clients.

Am I at the end of the road again?

LOL! I sure will.
I really hope you guys get work from this site.
Give it sometime, we are into our 2nd week and already 150 members.
we are going to start advertising tomorrow to get more reporters, we are trying to keep a happy balance between the reporters and scopists. basically we are not going to have the scopist out number the reporters in fact its going to be the other way around.

I believe there is soooo much work out there for everybody, from scoping, court reporting and videography.
sadly this whole profession seems to be in shambles for some reason.
i know many reporters that cry on my shoulders (not literally) everyday because they need a scopist.

we just need to organize, that's just my opinion.

Thanks Faye! I'm not finished with the story yet. (But I do have my name in a bunch of places.) Be sure to stay tuned for the outcome.

John, you're not at the end of the road! Firstly, yes, God does have a plan for you, as an individual, as a dad, as a husband and in a career! Secondly, you have talents and software, you need marketing! Do you have a website? Let's get you set up with one! Have you posted in places like the NCRA forum? The CRForum? Depoman? What about with the New York Court Reporters Association? If you'd like to contact me, please, feel free to! scopist@comcast.net -- I'll do what I can to help!
