Hi Kris,

Neal hasn't really written back about the smartwriter emulation. He said it worked in Case Catalyst, but I was more interested if it worked in Eclipse. Reason being is that it doesn't work in StenoCAT, and I tried it on Stephanie's Eclipse, and had the same problem. And then I actually have DigitalCAT student software too...it works on that.

Well, it's not that big a deal anymore...I originally was trying to use it to get rid of the delay, but it's fixed now in StenoCAT, so no more delay. YIPPEE!

As for the battery, it just plain SUCKS. I can't even get through NIGHT classes. And you know we're not there THAT long! It's packed up and ready to be sent back to them for analysis. I asked them for new batteries, regardless though...hope so. I have to pay shipping, and they're on the East Coast, so it's gonna cost a fortune to ship the thing.

You can try your battery on a depo -- just watch the light. If it goes from orange to red, just plug it in.

I'm glad to hear your writing better on the LS too! It's funny that you went back to that cool pad...BECAUSE I switched to the tripod! HAHAHA!

Hey, let me know how the new pads go!

And BTW, April Posein told me she saw you today at work. Cool.

Oh yeah, and tell Neal that if he wants to meet me at school, we could play with his SD card and opening files. I'm sure we could figure something out between the two of us. We can compare it on the different CAT systems. I'd like to see what's going on with it. Works fine for me.

Hmmm...that means that your Lightspeed is slower than your 8000LX? I know it can be more messy, but I didn't think it was slower.

Interesting. Well, at least you did the other easier jobs well with it.

Okay...but if you start misstroking a BUNCH, then you know what happened! BTW, I wrote the same "fingertips" as I did when I was on the 8000.

Yeah, for the bluetooth, solid blue light is what you want. ;-)

I didn't see Neal's setup yet...Ha! You're comin' around on his ideas!

Oh...by "my style" you meant the keypads. Yes...definitely my way is better. heehee.

Re: 1, what was on roaming mode when your bluetooth kept dropping;

If the blue light on the LS was flashing slowly, then it would drop connection after a few minutes. I later found out that when it was flashing slowly, it merely was in "discoverable" mode. And I reasoned that discoverable mode would shut off. After that, I found that to properly turn BT on, you have to hold down the power button to activate the BT, then connect the computer to it. THEN, the blue light would go solid. That's the key...when it's solid, it stays connected.

Re: 2, have you ever run out of space on your sd card;
Nope, there's LOTS of space on it. I like the way it stores files -- by year, month, then date, then the files are named by time. Cool. It's EASY to delete stuff...when you plug in the LS via USB cable, it automatically pops up the contents of the SD card. You can delete whatever month, date, etc. you want. You can also see how much space is available by going to My Computer, then right-clicking on the SD card drive and choosing Properties.

Re: 3, how do you get your files to save in a folder on your computer? i routed the files to a folder on my hard drive. the folder exists, but the files don't show up.

Yikes...you mean save it to a folder on your hard drive rather than the SD card? I don't know, nor would I do that. Maybe I misunderstood. From your software though, you can read notes from the SD card. The HINT is to pick Smartwriter when you read notes because the file format is FILE.001 which is Smartwriter format. (They're also in RTF format, but that's another story)

Re: i know you've been writing on your lap w/ the lightspeed, but today i wrote on the tripod, and i was writing a lot cleaner and with ease. might want to try that instead of that metal stand i had, because that metal stand is another $50 out of pocket.

I tried the tripod, then the lap, then the tripd, then the lap, etc...I like the lap better, and I wrote better with it too. I may go visit Microcenter for that lap thing you showed me...but I really don't want to have to carry THAT around too...I know, I know...WAH, WAH!!!!

Re: oh, and neo actually got leather pads from stenodoc because he said the ones we put on were too sticky. i, personally, like the tacky feeling and the thickness of the pads. he says his fingers get stuck.

Interesting!!!

What? My style of writing might be better? Noooooooo! I'm sure it isn't.

NICE...now you're ready for a depo!

That was sooooo nice of you! But I think you might really like the pads yourself...countdown for you to putting them on...T-minus 10, 9, 8, 7...

Wow, you're not using the keypads! And you do okay with that? You know, actually, if you have them and don't want them...I might. Reason is that I'm again curious to see what it's like to write without them. So if I peel mine off, then I'll need new ones to put on. ;-)

As for my writing...I put it head-to-head last weekend with my 8000 and wrote to some dictation. The Lightspeed was faster AND I had a higher tran percentage! I won't say what it was though. :-(

How's Neal doing with his? Does he use pads?

Hi Kris! That is such a CUTE dog!! Is it yours? I just got slammed with a whole bunch of work! Didn't get out of depo yesterday until 7:30 p.m. I had three depos, no lunch, and there's a possible expedite on the third one.....the only good news is that my all day job for today cancelled! I'm feeling the heat!!! See ya.....
