I'm hoping someone out there might be willing to help me. I have been a reporter for 21 years and am doing CART work for a student at the university. He is on a board that utilizes CART services and wondered if I would be interested.

Apparently they use a projector and big screen, as it is a deaf and hard of hearing nonprofit group. I haven't gotten far enough in CART to know much about how this works, what to charge, how to prepare, etc.

If anyone is willing to offer some advice, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Robin,
How exciting! I'm a CR student and have been providing CART for a couple of local HLA groups for their general meetings. I have been with one group for about two years and was "hired" to provide the service at $100. The meetings are about two hours long. The second one I've only provided CART for about six meetings and they let me determine the price. That meeting is generally only an hour and a half but way more travel time involved so I charge them $150 total since I am still a student. As far as what you need, I would ask if there's a directory or something where you can get the names and background information on the Board members. Also inquire as to whether or not they want a transcript. For the general meetings I do they don't. Also, make sure you have the right port for the projector. Some of them are using USB but others are using the older one (I don't remember what it's called right now). I hope this helps and good luck!
Hi Robin,

For preparation, I'd just ask to see some minutes of previous meetings the board have had and an agenda for the upcoming meetings, also make sure you have the names of all the board members :)

Regarding what to charge, that's a difficult one. Different companies and different locations have vastly differing prices, so an idea might be to try and contact some other CART providers in your area or even in your State and see if they're willing to share that sort of information with you. It's always good to make contact with other local providers anyway, as you may need to call on them some time in the future!
