I wondered whether someone would even bother making a USB-to-serial adapter driver for Windows 7. After I dropped the one and only laptop that hasn't given me problems last night and destroyed the display, I really wanted an answer to the Windows 7/serial port question. I found this link for a CoolGear USB-to-serial adapter that does have a driver for Windows 7. I have used CoolGear adapters before, and they have worked great. There's a nice demo on the installation/setup on the following link:

That is good information, Janet. Windows 7 is now out in full bloom, and we all are going to be facing it.

They had a couple netbooks on QVC with Windows 7 on it by HP. They were only about 400 bucks. Oh, I was so tempted. :-)
After I dropped my laptop, I went to WalMart to see what they had. I found a Dell netbook, got to the register with it, and then looked closer at the box. It was a Nickelodeon version, white with green slime on it. Looking at it on display, you can't see it. I passed on that one.
I love it! White with green slime?!! The attorneys would be SO impressed!
I did buy a new comptuer with Windows 7, 64-bit version. So far, so good. I loaded my Eclipse software without any issues, and I installed the Diamante drivers with no problems. Both are working good so far. I ordered the CoolGear USB-to-serial with the Windows 7 driver. I'm anxious to get going and test the realtime output.

Windows 7 loads and shuts down much faster than Vista did. That circle doesn't hang there for what seems like an eternity waiting for programs to load. It's easy to use. There's no big difference in the way the control panel looks. What is different is how fast it gets into the control panel settings -- a great improvement!
Hey, Janet, that is GREAT news. Please keep us posted on how the Windows 7 is working for you, especially if you find any difference between the 64-bit and 32-bit version. I can't wait to hear how you are doing after you have been using it for a month or two. So please do let us know. Inquiring minds want to know! ;-)
I will keep you posted. I know it takes time to see what, if any, bugs/flaws there are with any product/software.
