Welcome to CSR Nation
Let's not reinvent the wheel, as they say. There is lots of info on CR-NET regarding ABs. Here is one link from Keith Vincent's e-Tips. I have been using these macros since this e-Tip in July of 2007. When you downloaded V5, you received the updated version of the RT editing kit. The macros are in there.

Tip from Jenny: I avoid the number bar and the Z key, so I write my AB request macros like this: S-BS, T-BS, P-BS, H-BS - instead of Keith's suggested 1-BZ, 2-BZ, etc.

your setting for suggestions may be set to 3....that may be why it only gave you three.
try setting that higher and see what happens.
We need to get the terminology straight. My ABs work perfectly. I request (using my macros) frequently. I am reminded of what's in my dictionary if it will save me a few strokes. I get suggested briefs when Eclipse thinks I've stroked out a large word or phrase a few times. Or maybe even once. I can't remember.
Take a look in your V5 manual and do a search for the word "reminders." That will take you to the explanation. Take another look at the pic I posted of my settings on the previous page here.
Okay.
Kelli,
your setting for requests may be set to 3....that may be why it only gave you three.
try setting that higher and see what happens.
That's interesting. It is set to three, but when I only had one request up, I asked for another and it wouldn't give it to me. I pressed my request stroke a ton of times and it wouldn't work. I thought that 3 only meant three would come up at a time.
Kelli said: Jenny, I put that - in the auto brief thing for only one strokes to show up like you told me to and then whenever I asked for a brief, it wouldn't give it to me. Jason, with tech support, says I have to take that out of there.
That doesn't make sense to me, but I'll test it out myself. The - (which is a minus and the spacebar) is supposed to prevent you from getting a two-stroke AB such as ANT/ANT for antidepressant.
I'm all set up to do some RT testing right now, SMAFT. (as a matter of fact)
What I found out by my auto-brief testing was the following:
I tried to request an AB for the two words "dirt bike" and got nothing.
I deleted ONLY my - (minus sign and spacebar) in the programming tab/auto brief steno theory - Started a new tran and asked for an AB for dirt bike - still got no AB.
I cut ALL my auto-brief steno theory entries and pasted them into wordpad. Tried my request for dirt bike, and GOT an AB of TKEUR.
Here are my normal entries that I cut out:
+*
-*EUR
-*R
-RA*F
-RA*R
-RO*F
-RO*R
-SD
So which one was the culprit? I have no idea, but it wasn't - !
ps: It was very difficult to come up with two words that AB didn't give me an AB for. You try it!
