Okay, so I have this new Samsung 15.6 laptop.  It's really nice.  BUT I really don't like the touchpad being off center of the screen because of the number pad on the right.  So the screen is off center from where my fingers are.  Does anyone know about the Compaq computers?  I did see a laptop that is 15 inch with no number pad and the touchpad is centered under the screen.

Well, I've been looking and looking.  It seems most 15 inch laptops all have the number pad and off center touchpad.  Must be the new wave of things...........

What is your experience of adjusting to this layout?

Kerry, I have a Compaq.  If I understand what you're asking, my number pad is on the right.

I've been shopping for laptops for the last few days for a brother who's in college and, I believe, almost every one I looked at was set up like this.  Some had the number pad even further in from the right, which I didn't think I'd like.  I can't remember what was on the right of the number pad.

I use my Compaq to edit constantly and don't have any problems.  Not sure what problems you're having, though.

I just wondered how good a Compaq laptop was because I saw some online with Windows 7 and a 15.6 inch screen with no number pad so the touchpad was centered like my older Dell Inspirons that are dying on the vine......

Mine has been great.  I use it daily, sometimes from 7 a.m. to midnight, and it's still going strong.  I think it's going on three years old.  I have been so impressed with it, I bought a desktop for my upstairs office.  Unfortunately, it seems HP is doing away with them.  Mine is Windows 7.

Yeah, I think I posted about this issue when I bought the Samsung laptop.  I must say, however, that you get used to it.  It just takes a little whiled for your fingers to get used to being over to the left a little bit.  My Toshiba doesn't have the number pad at all.  My husband's new Dell he just bought doesn't have the number pad either.

I'm not having a problem with the Samsung any longer.  You'll get used to it if you give it a chance.

I use an external mouse and and an external full-size keyboard so it does not bother me.

Kerry, how is the audio on this computer for you?

It's loud enough, but has a little static, but I recorded with the sound recorder software on the laptop so I need to check a file that I recorded with Catalyst on a job.
