I do backup my macros or key sets. You want to make sure that you have renamed your macros to something other than what Gigatron names them. I use my name. If you don't change the name and update the version of StenoCAT you're on, the key sets and macros will override to the new version and you will lose all the customization you have done. Also, any time you modify or make a macro, you want to "save as." If you only "save," it will only be saved for that one particular job and not any future jobs.

do you back up your macros and smart key sets? Just copy in your backup to restore it to its proper setting.

Evelyn,
Go into your macros and look at the code. It sounds like something was changed. You would need to go into a job, then tools, edit macros, find the macro and look at the code. If you don't know what the macro is called tools, customize keyboard, put in your "L" key and the macro will appear. Now you can go look at it. If you're not sure what the code should be, you can create another macro that does what you want and compare them. There's probably already one made to do that in the StenoCAT macros. Hope this helps.

I have been having a problem with something in StenoCat the last few transcripts and I was wondering what I messed up....

When I am in smartkey and using the "L" key to go to the next word if I get to the end of the line instead of going to the first word on the next line it is skipping that word and going to the second word, every line, not just once in awhile. It's only been the last few and I wasn't messing with any settings, does anybody know how to fix this?

Wendy,
I love StenoCat32. I don't know anything about Eclipse, so I can't comment on it. What I love about StenoCat 32 is, a lot of the functions are Windows functions. So if you know Windows you're ahead of the game. I also like the way there are multiple ways to do the same thing. So you can pick whichever is easiest for you.

Price wise, you can't beat the leasing program. $699 as opposed to $3,000 - 4,000 to buy, and then you have to also purchase the upgrades each year is kind of pricey.

I remember it took a little while to learn 32 from Open, but it wasn't that bad. It's not like learning an entirely new system.

I second Jeannette's comments. I've been a member of SUN since 1992, and it is a fantastic group -- no snobs, no cliques, and useful, relevant seminars. It's a great value, too. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better price for a seminar with so many CEUs. Hope to see you in Anaheim!

Hi Everyone,
I'm the current president of the StenoCat User Network. I want to invite everyone to check out our website at sughome.com. We have two seminars a year. Our next one is in Anaheim, CA, March 26 - 28, 2009. The schedule has been posted. This seminar's main concentration is going to be realtime. When you register you also get to sign up for 30 minutes of one-on-one training with the Gigatron techs. It's great to actually put a face with a voice. We are a fun and fantastic group. I hope to see you there. You won't be sorry.

Is anyone in need of a scopist? I was a court reporter in Hillsborough County, Florida, for 22 years. Now I am interested in scoping on StenoCAT. My version is outdated; however, I will subscribe to the StenoCAT 32 in order to do digital audio files.
Please let me know if anyone is in need of a scopist. Thank you, Darlene

Are there any reporters out there on Stenocat? Would love to hear what you think about it.
