VOICE RECORDED TRANSCRIPTS PROVIDED AT DEPS - WARNING

Well, here's a new one, reporters - at least, it's the first I'm seeing it.  The below is an email I just received today, talking about a 40% decrease in cost to attorneys AND a 35% increase in income for agencies, as if they're not greedy enough.  How do attorneys save 40% yet freelance agencies make 35%?  Again, it's on the backs of HARD- WORKING reporters.

I hope freelancers out there will finally get fed up with this sort of hocus-pocus from companies like this one.  This company…

ACER COMPRESSION SETTINGS

Does anyone have a workable suggestion for compression for a small ACER

computer.  I have tried numerous ones with a Sound Blaster as well, but eveyone seems to be talking underwater!  LOL.

I have just finished school for notereading/ scoping/ proofreading and I can't seem to figure out what are some good prices for my services.  If I could get some ideas and a few pointers, that would be great!! Are there any extra jobs that my court reporter will ask me to do?  Should I do her binding?

Thank you…

Text on Video Deposition

Greetings from Stockton Legal Video!  I have a couple of questions for my fellow CSR-Nation-ers:

For those of you who work with Legal Videographers (such as myself) ...

  • How many of you require that they be certified (i.e., by American Guild of Court Videographers)
  • How many of you generally require that the video be captioned with the transcript text?

Thanks in advance!

What should I use to bind?

Just got my first private client and I'm looking to find out what the agencies use to bind their transcripts. I'm looking to make this as professional as possible and I have heard that VeloBind may be the way to go, however, someone mentioned to me that it may not be admissible in court. Any insights into this? I'm located in NY. Is there a reason that I should or should not use VeloBind? Does anyone know if any of the larger firms are using this and if not what do they use? Any help would…

Need advice on picking production software!!

Hello everyone! I'm new on here but thought I'd give it a try. I have been a court reporter for ten years. I decided to make a change and am helping someone start up an agency. We are deciding between RealLegal and Min-U-Script for our production software. I really need some help from other court reporters who use either of these products or perhaps from any production techs out there who might be able to tell me which one you like best! Also, any advice on binding transcript styles and/or… Continue

Found a fantastic scopist

Thanks everybody for the replies.  I found a fantastic scopist through a scopist Mary Alyce, who is fantastic herself.

I can write like the bomb.  I just needed someone to read and punctuation and occasional audio.

sten ed theory books

If anyone has any old sten ed theory books for beginners around collecting dust, I would love to put them to use. I am a voice writer trying to get back to machine writing for real time but I need to start at the beginning to be sure I'm on the right track. Any help would be great. Mac, DigitalCat, CaseCat, Protege...Help!!

Hi,

I'm new here. I stumbled upon the community, and I figured someone could help me here. I was on cheapandsleazy.net looking for a way to configure my Macbook with DigitalCat. I was lead to the Wine application, but I still can't get it to work. I would also like to use my CaseCat as well. I do have another pc I can use in the mean time, but it saves me having to carry around two laptops because the Dell is pretty ancient.

I have DigitalCat 167, 190, and 192 installed (I… Continue

Use of "so" as end of answer. I know there was a blog or discussion on here but I can't find it now.

Sorry in advance, as I know this was already discussed on here, but I can't find the discussion. I'm proofing a Q & A and almost every other answer ends with and unneeded "so" which my CR currently has as ending with a period. I know she doesn't like -- and ... isn't really correct as she isn't trailing off, she'll give a complete answer and ad (so) to the end for God knows what reason. This is a bad habit, I guess, that she ends sentences with "so". I'm thinking the . would be correct. "I… Continue

CRR Exam

Does anyone have a suggestion as the best source for starting up Realtime? I do it for all of my jobs, but want to get to the next level so that I can pass the May CRR exam.
Is there a seminar?
Is it best to do an in-depth training session on my Catalyst software?
Thanks in advance for your input.
