Yes, I went to Best Buy/Geek Squad - Agent Smith. She removed the external battery (located on bottom) then replaced it, which restarted my laptop. I'm definitely going to buy a new one, but does anybody know which one works with CaseCat 8? I have XP and I know the new ones are running Vista. Thanks everybody for your inputs.

How much did you pay for your Vaio and when did you buy it? Just wondering so I don't walk out of the store with the thousand-yard stare sticker shock! (hehe)

Congrats that it works again! I had my hard drive crash on my Dell Inspiron 8600 two weeks ago. I had reinstalled XP five weeks before that. I found a GREAT local place! I plan to purchase a new laptop thru them when I go that route. BUT they put in a bigger hard drive; WiFi (did not have that at my request when I first ordered my Dell); and upped my RAM to 1GB! It is heaven!!!! You could always just do that with your laptop now and put off buying a new one. Mine was $210.....included tax too! Great price! Plus, dropped it off Wd at noon and had it back Thurs at 6pm! Was so exciting to finally find a good local place!

Diane --

If you have a Fry's store in your area, you should stop by. Look at the Fijutsu laptops. They include a serial port -- and can be ordered with XP (not sure if you can buy them with XP at the store, though).

If you can't, go here:

Good luck ....

Hi Karen. I wrote down your Sony Vaio for a reference. What is the difference between a notebook and a laptop? I don't understand too much about the two, but I vaguely recall the notebooks don't have a CD/DVD disk drive as the laptops do. I'm going to purchase a new laptop, but I noticed the notebooks are cheaper. Is this why? I just want something dependable for work. I don't use my current laptop for anything except depo work and some Microsoft Word work. Thanks for your input.
