Catalyst Work Units

Hi, Sheena.
I'm a little lost navigating around csrnation, and I can't seem to find your post of this doc. I'm still very interested in taking a look at it. Would you please guide me on how to find it? I'm guessing it's linked to your page here, but I'll be damned if I can find it!
[smile]
Thanks so much!

Machine - To students & reporters

To the reporters, I'm curious to know what machine did you use during school? And as a professional, what machine are you using now? To the students, which machine are you using? I currently don't have a machine. I'm hoping financial aid will cover it when I start school next year, but when I was previously in school (2006-2008) I rented a steno manual (dirty beige color) from the school.

Court Reporting Gifts/Merchandise.

I wish CSRnation had a store on here, where we could order all things pertaining to court reporting (i.e., mugs, t-shirts, lanyards, mouse pads, caps, keychains, etc). Just thought I'd throw that idea out there! ;-)

Personalized Steno License Plate

Hi everyone:

Any ideas for a personalized steno plate? A co-worker told me she saw a license plate with TPUBG - U.
No profanity, please. Thanks.

Non-Traditional Halloween Treats

We do not get as many children as we used to on Halloween. When I was a kid, the neighborhood was filled with children scampering up and down every street.

We knew which house gave out the best treats, and sometimes we'd sneak back up a second time. I think the homeowners knew we were coming for a second round, but they didn't seem to mind. One elderly lady on 32nd Street would hand out apples dipped in caramel, and on Dogwood Street, one homeowner baked pumpkin seeds, which were… Continue

VP Joe Biden & GreenTV.com

I have just returned home from long awesome morning (10-27-09). I was in the "press pit" on the platform with many other news cameras representing GreenTV.com. The VP of the USA Joe Biden & other DE elected officials made a huge announcement to help US jobs in the car industry. The atmosphere in the room was one of great hope, original American fight and stick-to-it-ness. It was an honor to capture such a great event. Also got to say hello to Beau again who I had worked with a few times on… Continue

Getting Paid

So really, it's not a matter of keeping busy alone, but also one of getting paid.

I'm noticing a trend of agencies taking longer and longer to pay reporters, which is bad. So what's going on?

I know agencies are having a harder time collecting from their attorney clients, who in turn are having a challenge collecting from their clients. It's all very easy to say, but I'm working for the agency and they need to pay me on the O&1 when they say they're going to pay, which… Continue

help with spelling

Has anyone heard of "co-codone"? I have a witness who keeps saying he's taking "co-codone" all with the long O sound -- like KO-KO-DONE. Google keeps saying "did you mean co-codeine," which then doesn't have any definition for that anyway. But witness is definitely pronouncing it with long O's -- not KO-DEEN. Anyway, any help out there? Thanks

Time, time, time. What time is it?

Well, the world is getting smaller or so they tell me. And if you work for several different agencies, it can get quite crazy in terms of keeping track of time.

This may not have happened to you, but you want to call an agency 3 o'clock your time and you realize it's 6 o'clock their time and you've missed the boat. Or the attorney wants the job by end of business their time, and you lose track of time.

Here is a website that might help you with that problem.… Continue

Loving Life

So, this is life as a court reporter. I have been reporting for just over a month, and it is awesome. The first two weeks I had some scheduling conflicts and couldn't work as often as I wanted to. When I was back from vacation, I only got one job in a whole week! I was pretty discouraged. However, the next week things seemed to pick up. I've had at least one job every day for 2.5 straight weeks and I'm up to my ears in pages. I've had two rushes in the past week and took my first medical expert… Continue

Retired reporter coming out of retirement

Now that I'm trying to get back into the work force, the technology for reporting has changed considerably. I bought a Stentura LX 8000 and need to know how to begin my practice. I am writing but how do I build my dictionary? I have no software, no tapes, no books, no money. I have been practicing off the TV. I can still remember briefs and keyboard but need some guidance as to how to get hooked up to the computer and get started.
