How do I fix my by line?

Somehow I've inadvertently changed my by line when I'm in edit. I like it to look like this after colloquy:

Q. (BY MR. SO-AND-SO) Blah, blah blah.

But now it looks like this:

BY MR. SO-AND-SO:
Q. Blah, blah, blah.

It comes out the way I want it when I got my symbols in during the depo, but when I have to add them in manually by double clicking on the name in the speaker list, they come out the other way. I hope this makes sense. I know there's a way to change it, but I've spent too much time already not being able to figure it out. Any ideas?

First of all, instead of double clicking the names to insert bylines and all that, just do F4 and the corresponding number. So say Mr. Jones is #2, you'd do F4-2, and it'd put in the colloquy byline. F4-SHIFT-2 will put in the Q byline.

Now, for the setup of those. Your colloquy one should look like this:

[!EZ SPEAKER 01]:

You will do that for all five or six entries you have in your EZ text.

Now, for Q (byline), you need this:

(By [!EZ SPEAKER 01])

Again, do that for all the Shift entries you want in your EZ text file. That should solve your problem. :)

Thanks for your reply, Christi. I guess part of my problem is my trainer set all that up for me, so I'm not really even sure what files I'm supposed to go into to change it. I've got a system file called EZtext, but nothing in there looks like what you're talking about. Is it possible to break it down a little more for me? And thanks for the tip on the faster way to insert the byline. I'll definitely use that.

If you would like, you could always send me your EZ text and EZ speakers dictionaries, but that won't help you in future instances should something happen. :) (It's still okay if you want to, though. LOL)

Okay. Those entries that I copied and pasted for you should be in your EZ Text file under System Files. The EZ Text should have 1-10 and Shift-1 through Shift-0. This is where those entries need to be, or else you're going to get the automatic byline that Case has, which is the one you're getting.

I'm not sure how else to explain it as I'm dealing with a major head cold. LOL So seriously, if you want to send over those files for me to look at, I'd be happy to. Then perhaps I can guide you better. [e-mail]

I did it! Thanks, Christi. That second email made the lightbulb go off. I didn't have anthing in EZtext before, so I have no idea where the format for my bylines was or why it changed. I'll have to read up on EZtext and see what other neat tricks I can do.
