Loving Life

So, this is life as a court reporter. I have been reporting for just over a month, and it is awesome. The first two weeks I had some scheduling conflicts and couldn't work as often as I wanted to. When I was back from vacation, I only got one job in a whole week! I was pretty discouraged. However, the next week things seemed to pick up. I've had at least one job every day for 2.5 straight weeks and I'm up to my ears in pages. I've had two rushes in the past week and took my first medical expert… Continue

Any Advice for a Newbie?

My last day at my current job is today. It is a little scary -- I have been here for almost 3.5 years and am familiar with my surroundings here. They have been so supportive of me throughout my schooling and were incredibly accommodating when I did my internship. I have been lucky to work here with the people I have been associated with.

However, I am SO EXCITED to dive into this crazy world of being a working court reporter! I have a fabulous agency that I interned with that is… Continue

I'm DONE!

It went fast, and I'm SO happy about it! I passed my first 225 Q&A on August 23rd, the second on August 27th, and my final one last night!! I will have my graduation ceremony on Thursday. My last day of work at my current job will be September 11th -- we will take a quick trip down to SC for the weekend -- and then I can start working on September 15th! I will sit for the RPR in November and hopefully get some initials behind my name! WOOHOO!!!

My First 225!

I passed!! I passed my first 225! 96.08%. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Just two tests left and then I'll be out there as a working court reporter!!!

There is no better encouragement than passing a test. I have class tonight and hope that I do well, but if I don't pass tonight...I will be practicing SO hard this weekend! Woo!

RPR

Well, I just registered for the November RPR. I passed the written knowledge test in July, so this is the big test. I sat for it in May just to get an idea of how it was (with no expectations to pass any leg, which I didn't), and so I'm hoping that will help my test jitters. I am writing a solid 200+ wpm and just need my final three Q&A tests at 225 to get out there and start working. I don't need the RPR to work, technically, but really want to get it to beef up my resume. It is one thing… Continue

Hi, Jackie.

Hehehe. You're so sweet! Thanks for all the kind words about Steno Nerd. I'm so glad that you found a clothing luggage to work just fine for your steno machine and laptop... just like me! Hehehe. And that's super sweet of your parents to give you that as a graduation present. Awww! :)

So how's work? Is the grass truly greener on the "other side" -- from student to working reporter? Hehehe.

School has been at a standstill for now. I have to take care of some home issues last/this week. I'll be on the ball again this coming Monday. But thanks for asking about my progress with school! Hopefully, the answer (from now on) is ALWAYS IMPROVING! :)

Have a great week, Jackie! Thanks again for being such a sweetie! ;)

Hi, Jackie.

Yes, fleas are the WORST!!! :P But thanks so much for asking. :) Things are getting much, much better. I think we have about 90% of the situation under control. Just gotta continue to be vigilant and consistent and proactive!

How are you?! How does it feel like to be done with school?! Please share all the wonderful things I can look forward to!!! Hehehe. I'm so excited for you!!! :) :) :)

Hi, Jackie.

Thanks for asking about my Jury Duty. I went to court on Monday from 8 a.m., and they dismissed us all at 2 p.m. They never called my name except when taking roll. So I've never had the experience of even being considered for a Jury Panel yet! Oh well, there's always next time! For now I'm free for the next 12 months.

I'm at Coffee Bean (local coffee shop) to put some hours into practicing today! YAY! FINALLY! Hehehe.

Thanks for the reminder and encouragement to keep on practicing! I'm SO SURE you'll reach your 225 wpm much sooner rather than later! :)

Keep in touch!

Hi, Jackie.

I go back September 8 (I think? LOL!). Can't wait!

Currently on Jury Duty this week... so I don't really have a free week unfortunately. I'm on call.

When do you go back? I haven't done a great job at all with trying to study over my break. :P

Thanks for the GOOD LUCK! GOOD LUCK to you as well! :D
