I just got hired to start CARTing at a local university. Don't know schedule of classes yet, but can any of you give me advice? I've been a reporter for 23 years with my CRR cert for 10. Need to learn fingerspelling and numbers better. Still reporting, though, cause it's only part time.

It's been kind of quiet here for a while. Are all you CART providers ready for a new semester/quarter? I'm excited because this is the first semester I'll have my very own student. In the past I've been a sub. Just doing one night class and don't know what the subject is yet but have work with the student before. I can hardly wait!

Linda, you shouldn't have a problem juggling captioning and CART, and good luck to you finishing up your studies.
I'm a reporter, a CART provider, a captioner, a CRI and an agency owner, so it can be done, I just wouldn't recommend it to the faint hearted ;)

Lauren, I have a real-time class on Friday's and I'm really enjoying it. I know you need to like real-time for CART or captioning. I'm been listening to my pastor's sermons on CD and sometimes he talks fast. How in the world do you keep up with fast talkers? I know in court you can slow the talk down some. Also, I'm interested in webcasting. do you do any of that?

Hi Linda. I am a CART Provider in Alabama. You should not have a problem doing both CART and Captioning. You would just have to do one during the day and one at night, or one on certain days of the week and the other on the other days. I CART and report. I do not have any problems doing both. It is great that you are interested in CART. I love it!

I'm still a student but I'm torn between CART and Captioning. Can I do both???

I'm new to the site and looking around. I do CART, but not often, as there is not much call for it where I am located. I would like to do more, but I haven't had much opportunity. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
