Thanks again, Laura. Just tried taking down a job in E5 today.  My autobriefs did not work/pop up at all even though I have it checked.  And there was a DELAY from what I was taking down until it appeared on my screen. I think I'm going to have a massive coronary before I get used to 5.  Been having some issues with E4, not being able to direct auto backup to another drive/folder.  After many frustrating phone calls and LOOOOOONG hours on the phone with tech, one finally told me that the backup directory is HARD-PROGRAMMED into Eclipse v4 and cannot be changed.  Only will work in 5.  :(

Also, in the View Toggles, I have no idea what the heck all those numbers mean for auto-brief setup:  reminders, requests, suggestions, minimum, minimum reminder.  What is all that?  Ugh.

If you don't like AutoMagic, just shut it off and reset your 7, 8, 9, and 0 Hyperkeys.

Go to Window/View toggles and uncheck AutoMagic.  You can uncheck Use Numbers at that screen too, but that probably doesn't matter if AutoMagic isn't active.  Uncheck Info Bar if you don't want the space on the left side of your screen.  There are some other settings there you might want to explore, like your AutoBrief setup.

Then go into your User settings/Edit tab/Macros to put the 7, 8, 9, and 0 Hyperkeys back to the way they were.  Look in the list for Hyp: 2-Stroke Global through Hyp: 5-Stroke Global.  Click each in turn to highlight, click Edit, and then assign the speed key as 7, 8, 9, and 0 as you were using before.

When you're done, be sure to save your settings.  I think you'll like version 5 just fine with AutoMagic out of the picture.  It's a great tool for some, but it's not for everyone.

Thanks, Laura.  I tried changing the file location of BACKUPS, but it didn't work. I'm on 4.3.0.10.

I tried it in Ecl 5, and it did work, though. The Alt + number to global was driving me insane and taking me way too long to edit; I just could not remember to do it. I went back to Ecl 4. :(

I began using CrashPlan recently, which does automatic off-site backups as often as you want. My hubby is a techie, and he has been very satisfied with the program. It's reasonably priced:  $5 per month.

If you're on a newer version of Eclipse, go to Alt U/Programming tab/File locations.  There's a BACKUP= line where you set the path for your backups.

Good luck with the computer.

Does anyone know if we can designate which folder the Eclipse backup (.bak) file is automatically saved to? What I mean is, right now, it automatically saves a .bak file to the same folder as all the .ecl file.  I want to tell Eclipse to save the .bak file to an external backup drive.  Is this possible?  Having problems with my computer (the screen just all of a sudden blacked out and wouldn't start up -- yikes!), and I'm afraid it's going to die on me again.  Thanks.

Cindy, I'd bet there's a way it can be done in Bridge, but, honestly, most attorneys just look at the screen and are terrified to hit a button, much less cut and paste.

Christy,

They usually come up correctly.  Just every once in a while it'll throw that hyphen in there in stead of a $.  And I don't come back for a plural on those words.  Laura was correct, I do believe.  I had 50- to $75,000 as a global and that's probably what was throwing it off.

Judy, thanks.  That negates it all then b/c Livenote will not be used - Bridge will be.

Appreciate your quick response!

Cindy, I've had only one attorney say he could cut & paste during the depo, and he was using LiveNote.  He refused to used Bridge - said he couldn't cut and paste and be done with depo summary at the end of the depo.
