And don't stress yourself out UNNECESSARILY about things that haven't even taken place yet or probably never will (talking to myself here, too! :P). They say a LARGE percentage of the things we worry about NEVER happen! So why waste all that energy?!
Just yesterday my attorney (I work at a law office) told me that he talked with a working reporter and mentioned that I'm in court reporting school. You know what that working reporter told my attorney? She told him to tell me (the student) to NEVER STOP! You MAY hit those plateaus (and I think 99.9% of reporters do!), but IF you do... YOU CANNOT STOP! You just gotta keep PUSHING THROUGH... and eventually you'll get through that plateau and onto your next speed goal... and then GRADUATION! WOO HOO! :D
So don't worry about things not yet here yet. And if/when you do hit a rocky patch, don't get discouraged! Show up to school every day, put in your BEST EFFORT every time you're on your machine, and continue to believe that you CAN AND WILL get through court reporting school and become an AWESOME COURT REPORTER in the very near future. YOU CAN DO IT! :D
So awesome that you started your court reporting journey right after high school! In some ways, I wish I had done that. I went to a community college first to get my GE's out of the way. Then when it was time for me to transfer, I reevaluated... found court reporting... AND FELL IN LOVE! :) It's been a longer journey in the program than I wanted it to be, but that was on me -- I had placed full-time/overtime work as the priority for a few years rather than getting through court reporting school. But now my passion is to finish my program soon and to finish well... hopefully by 2010!
Please check out my blog -- stenonerd.blogspot.com -- where I chronicle my court reporting days from current student to soon-to-be working reporter. I also love to reach out to other court reporting students and be an encouragement to them through my blog. Thanks in advance for checking it out!
