"I have my first realtime scoping job on the horizon. I would appreciate any input.  What happens when the depo is over and scoping still needs to be done? How is it to scope? "

My Next Challenge: Realtime Scoping

Okay, finally one of my court reporters has decided to tackle realtime scoping with me. She took a seminar on it a few weeks ago, and I've had a couple of opportunities to see it in action this week. She's still trying to get everything set up properly for us. We have a big trial coming up in a few months that will require realtime scoping, so I hope we get our act together before then!

From what I've seen of it so far, it's pretty cool. I get superb audio streaming of what's going… Continue

LOL! You got it. (Easy promise to keep -- I expect to die at the computer editing a job *rolls eyes*)

LOL! You're too funny!

Yeah, I reserve that one for those special depos when I really want to make an impression! ;)

Linda -

Sorry for the delay in answering your post. I only drop in on this site every now and then when I get a chance. It's very cool!

At this point we mention realtime scoping in our training, but we haven't gone into a lot of depth. Part of the reason for that is because of the issues you and others have mentioned. When there is a 5 sec. delay when typing in a correction, it makes it almost impossible to make much progress.

We are always looking for new advances in technology in order to make it a smoother process. Until then, we suggest to our students that they try breaking the transcripts into chunks so they can import it directly into their CAT system without having the long delay. You can still use the PC to PC connection programs to accommodate quicker turnaround. You can connect to your reporter's computer and snag chunks of a transcript while the reporter is still writing. That way, you can get portions of the transcript throughout the day without having to bother your reporter.

I'm looking forward to "lurking" in the Realtime Scoping discussion and I'll be sure to send others that way too.

Thanks for helping others in your profession!
Cathy

Okay, here's another question, LOL! I added some music to my page. Will it load and start to play automatically when someone opens the page, or is there a setting to make that happen?

Also, I don't see a spot for adding an image file so I can tile it around the body of the page where all the text appears. I notice that Brenda Rogers has figured out how to do it and has some nice spring flowers bordering the main body of her page. How can I do this, short of CSS, which I don't have time to learn right now?

Thanks, Monti!

Hello,

1- We no longer have that "view my page as others see it" because others see exactly what you see minus the little "edit"b buttons around your page.

2- I have tried adding the chat in its own page, it was much bigger but very few people used it.
We are having many issues with this chat feature, it is slowing the whole site down.
We might have to take it off :(

If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.
thanks

Haha, good catch, just fixed it.
The people that know me know the irony of me running this site, I cant spell to save my life.
Kelli (my partner) yells at me every time i send out emails to our users informing them of changes or whatever.
"MAKE SURE I PROOFREAD IT FIRST" she always says.. haha.
Thanks for the heads up.

I haven't actually come across anything in here as yet like that. But then I've been super busy this year as well. I'm just about to shut down for a bit. But hopefully we can hook up soon and catch up.
Take care for now.
