Site for Reporters to get work Scoped and for Scopists to get Work!!

I was on another forum and a reporter mentioned this site. It's for court reporters to get work scoped at reasonable rates. And also for scopists to join their site, and the site gets you work and you work when you want, and they pay you every two weeks and just take 10% commission fee.

Sounds real good for the scopists that are looking for work and for reporters to get their work scoped on the occasions that their own personal scopist is too busy or away on vacation.

Taking Leads

So I worked for this stenographer for a few days last week. I tell her I'm in the writing profession so she asks me to proofread this 500 page deposition. Afterwards, she throws me this web address. I'm not sure how the networking transpires but I do have time to edit/proofread anyone's work.

Best, Kevin

My daugher's new pet

On Thursday, I worked from 10 am to 5:30pm and had an hour drive home. My MIL picked up Abby from the sitter's. She had her 'pet' with her, lol. So I gave in and Googled snails and we have a new pet. Coconut likes bananas! Isn't that funny? I need to get turnips and see if she goes for those. We call her 'she' but snails are he/she's, lol. I should have been working on trannys today but ended up taking… Continue

First Day of the CSR Annual Convention aka Vendor CAT training day

Well, day one went well. Registration was pretty smooth. Online voting went well.

I learned some interesting things at my CAT software training session.

The opening happy hour reception was very nice. Tons of food.

I looked for the CSRNation people. I did not see anyone. Where, oh, where are you hiding?

Did not get a chance to see the Exhibition hall, but will try to hit it tomorrow..

Wireless Stenocast question using serial, too.

Hello fellow court reporters!!
I have bought Stenocast, wireless realtime. I love it. It has a serial port so you can also use serial for extra
hookups. Has anybody tried this, i.e., wireless and serial at the same time? I tried tonight and it did not work.
I will call support in the morning. Just wondered if any of you wonderful people have tried this.
Thanks!! :)

A wedding I photographed last Saturday

This was my favorite of the day! They finished the reception at 3:30 so the three of us went to our local Pier and took a few between the sprinkles that were falling. I was very excited at what I was able to do with this, as it was dark/rainy. You would never know, lol. I love digital!

Who's getting excited?

The NCRA Annual Convention is less than a week away. Whoo-hoo. I'll be at the Eclipse Advantage seminar on Thursday and definitely all the social events. Would love to meet everybody. I think Marla is trying to set up some kind of group activity.

Okay. Who's going to buy me a… Continue

The Road to the Speed Contest

June 30, 2008: I began practicing for the 2009 Speed and Realtime Contests. I took out my tapes, got my computer ready. I'm also using Realtime Coach to build my accuracy and my dictionary. The Realtime Contest can have some killer material.

My practice began with 240 QA speed building practice. I actually did better than I thought I was going to do. During the practice, I felt the need to shorten my writing more than I usually do. I also tucked my endings, like WAEUGT… Continue

Getting paid by a reporter

Any suggestions on getting paid by a reporter who hasn't paid me for scoping services for work that was performed and is now 6 months overdue?

Not carpal tunnel, but tennis elbow

Well, it seems that I have tennis elbow aka epilateral condilytis. Whoo-hoo.

Has anyone had this? What did you do? I'm seeing a chiro and I just started some anti-inflammatories.

Any other suggestions?

Dress professionally, please!!

I've been a depo reporter a very long time. I was taught early on to always dress professionally.

I am always glad to see a fellow court reporter in a law firm or office. Lately I keep meeting very friendly

court reporters, but I am shocked to see what they are wearing, i.e., open-toed shoes, (flipflops) spaghetti straps, etc. Please consider what you are wearing. You are representing all of us! You are not on your way to the beach. You are a professional! Save the cutesy stuff for… Continue

Holding transcripts for payment of account balances

What do you do if your client wants a transcript and yet hasn't paid their bill in a year?
Do you hold that transcript 'hostage' until they bring their account current? Is there some law about us
no longer extending credit...including a transcript they need for trial...until they bring their account current?

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.

Let's Help Each Other!!

Sorry, I'm going to have to rant about my pet peeve. If you are part of a reporting TEAM working a multi-day job, why do other members of the TEAM not communicate with the next person coming on, at least a note about what attorney is present or maybe a topic area? Let alone a few spellings? I have encountered this too many times to count and it aggravates me no end. When I start off a multi-day job, I leave a seating chart, appearances, spellings and instruction from attorneys about how they… Continue
