Impression Facts

Glen:  We have not been using anything from Stenograph since the first Stylus.  We were also the first company when we came out with the Stylus to add audio.  Everyone after that followed suite.

The Impression, like the Stylus, is all our creation.  Our body on the machine really is not like the D, nor does it operate anything close to what they have.

IMPRESSION

The cost before the discount is $5295.  This includes Bluetooth wireless and wide keys if you use them.  The machine is also set for WiFi.

IMPRESSION

Kellie, it is quite different.  The touch is very easy almost like writing on air.  It takes up to 64 Gig SD cards, and the screen is like an ipad so you can swipe through your notes or English and a lot more.

Building a reporter/scopist relationship from the ground up

Reporters, your golden opportunity may have just presented itself.

Read Brytta Fitzgibbon's post.  Brytta is a scopist-to-be, having completed her academic work and now looking for a reporter with whom to intern.  She hasn't bought software yet.

I know you are busy people, but especially for those of you who are dissatisfied with the scopists you've used, here's a lady you can train to do things your way.

I'm willing to mentor Brytta on using Eclipse, if she'd like help…

Copy of Video without Copy of Transcript?

Need some opinions.  Our office provided the reporting and videography services for a depo.  The non-taking attorney wants a copy of the video but not a copy of the transcript. One argument is that we should not provide a copy of the video without a copy of the transcript and are undermining the reporter by providing the video, that reporter is likely missing out on a copy order because of that.  The other argument is that we can't can't pick and choose what the attorney orders and it is not…

Scopsit -- rats! Scopist...

Let me start by saying I'm not perfect.  I am human, after all.

I recently posted an ad elsewhere for a reporter whom I'm working with.  She is super busy, but she just can't find a scopist that's worth their salt.  I feel terrible that she's in this predicament but I can't help her because we're on different software.  I do, however, proof her jobs.  Being a proofreader can be enlightening as far as what some who hang their shingle as scopist feel is good work.  And it's…

ADDRESSING DISCOVERY REFEREE AT HEARING

I recently did a hearing/conference in an office suite where a discovery ref was present.  He is a retired judge, but was acting as a discovery ref.  What title do I use when setting him up as one of the speakers?  There were 2 defense attorneys present and 1 plaintiff attorney present.

Thanks for your advice!

Discouraged as well

I read the blog from Crystal about being discouraged in finding work.  I understand completely.  I am entering deposition setting after working as official reporter for the last seven years.  I have been "out of circulation" and am willing to report last-minute, emergency, and regular-scheduled depositions. I have contacted about nine agencies, have not heard word one the last month.  I am pretty desperate.  Any good words of advice, anyone?

Choose, Survival of the Fittest, which one are you?

Too many entries I am reading where reporters are not finding work and comments that there simply are not enough reporters in the author's jurisdiction.

Indeed, we are seeing the first hunger pangs in our industry and unfortunately it is only going to get worse before it gets better.

Certainly, the NCRA has completely failed to support its membership that continues to lose every day more members. I remember back in the 1990's when the board of directors were severely… Continue

Military etiquette, in case you don't know!!

Hi all!  Just let me vent.... my son just came home from Afghanistan.  Worked his A-S-S off defending our country.   At the grocery store tonight, our neighbor asked him if he killed anybody while he was over in Afghanistan.   This lady is probably like 55 years old.  He said, "I'm uncomfortable with that question." You never ask a veteran that question.  I wanted to punch her.  I don't know if she's uninformed on etiquette or just a dumb *&^%!   I'm sure most of you know not to ever ask…

O . . . M . . . G . . . what's a girl to do?!

Here I go again with another one of my mortifying finds. Rough went out . . . with this:

"The board has authority to scrotum on whether to fine a homeowner or not."

Eh-hem.

"The board has authority to vote on whether to fine a homeowner or not."

I shadowed the "K." Ugh. :/

COPY SALE LAWSUIT

I remember reading there has been a lawsuit filed against court reporters charging attorneys ordering copy sales rates more in line with original costs and charging the attorney taking the deposition (their client with whom they have a contract) lower rates than the copy rate charged.

Can anyone please tell me where the lawsuit was filed?

Footers on Case

Hi,

I'm trying to add a 3 line footer on Case Cat.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Help?!

I KEEP GOING OVER MY AUDIO TO FINDOUT WHAT THE WORD THAT WAS USED IS, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE "INFRACTION, REACTION, OR FRACTION." IT SOUNDS LIKE IT ENDS W/ "TION, BUT I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT.

Q. They're not proper objections so I will make sure I make a better note in the system so that (Fraction/Infraction/reaction?) can understand that better.

Motion to compel?

I was asked about 2 or 3 times throughout depo to mark the transcript because the attorneys were going to order a motion to compel because the witness refused to answer certain questions.

How am I supposed to mark the transcript?? IDK what to do

Is "caint" or "kaint" a word?

I recently had a witness say:

A. I just woke up and moved too quick and my neck caint.

I don't know if it's a word or how it's spelled. Can anyone help?

question about a witness that you can't understand......help!

I was just wondering what a reporter should do if they are in a deposition and you simply can not understand your witness, whether it's due to accent or any other thing that might impare their speech?  This was a question on a test once, and I just didn't know the answer.  I know what I would do, but does anyone know what the "rule" is on this?  I would simply tell the attorneys that I can't understand the witness and that I'm sorry but we can't go forward.  It's my name on the certificate…
