Just thought I'd wish you a happy birthday too. :) You don't know me, but I figured if your birthday falls on the Super Bowl day, you need as many good wishes as possible so you don't get lost in the shuffle .

Jennifer, How's your realtime coming along? No, don't even think about it today - it's your birthday!!! Only fun thoughts allowed!
Yeah, i think you could probably do better salary-wise elsewhere. Although, there's lots to consider......close to home, benefits, great judge, the courthouse environment seemed pretty friendly and family-like when I was there those couple of times. And, you know, if you went a couple counties over remember what THAT was like?! Talk about an awful work environment - that woman was an emotional wreck and a monster, not to mention jealous and just plain hateful, without one friend in the whole place! Although, I have heard she's on meds now, so maybe it's better. BUT, I digress - sorry. My point is you could get stuck in a situation like that where you never know what mood a coworker is going to be in, and how that mood will affect the other people you're stuck working with. Be wise and pray about it. ttyl
Will let you know the next time I go. Usually I go down April/October but I know December we will be there, as my son will be leaving for Iraq that month. :( But I plan to go stay a weekend with my DIL in October while he is away at training. Will be nice to 'bond' with her.
That is SO funny! The pic of my DD on my page was taken downtown Blairsville, lol. That town is so adorable! My DIL is still at IUP working on her masters.
I LOVE the coffee place at IUP....maybe we could meet the next time I go down. :) We had lunch at Colepeppers or something like that and their food is yummy! Did you grow up there or just 'living' there?
I noticed you are PA...my DS lives in Indiana, PA....well, Blairsville, lol. We were just down there. I grew up near Bradford, PA. DS went to IUP and met his wife there and stayed. I am in Rochester, NY now tho.
Jennifer, My parents almost named me Jennifer, but I respond to just about any name - especially April. I have quite a few tips regarding realtime, but my first would be see if you can attend one of the Anita Paul workshops or get in touch with someone who has been if she won't be in your area for a while. Do you have your RPR? That's a really big step in the right direction. You need extra speed when you start changing your writing for realtime. Do you have an alphabet or two? Do you have a way to write a suffix and prefix such as down = DOUN - down^ = YOUN - downtown - ^down = JOUN - breakdown? Some reporters use JOUN for the prefix. If you know that tip, that's a big help. I'm going to a depo soon, but that's a start for now!
Glad to meet you. Thanks for the pictures. It's always nicer when there's a picture of a person.
I personally just got thrown into realtime. The agency asked me, do you do realtime. I said yes. I didn't really want to do it, but they didn't have any other reporters who could provide the service or were even willing to. I went and did it. It was not a great job in terms of the witness kept interrupting. But at the end, the attorney thanked me for providing the realtime. I haven't looked back since.
Welcome! I only joined last week myself, but my sister Jenny has been a member for some time and it has been very rewarding for her. I have a small firm in the Bay Area with Jenny and our brother John. I've been reporting for 27 years, Jenny 30, John around 25. We're on Eclipse and all passed our Merit.
I've never done realtime and am frankly scared to death to try! However, Jenny passed her realtime test a few months ago. Jenny is wonderful in so many ways. She's an excellent reporter and has such a generous spirit. She loves to help people. Fortunately, I am the beneficiary of a great deal of that help! She would really enjoy giving you some tips about realtime. Her name is Jenny Griffin. Please introduce yourself to her.
